Gen 10 owner here - should I skip Gen 11 and go to 12?
Due to the spark plug issue I'm wondering if I should avoid this generation altogether and go straight to gen 12 - I've watch some video on the issue and it looks ugly.
Also, why isn't there a spark plug sticky on this sub? That has to be the #1 question asked.

I’d avoid the 5.4 3v.
The 4.6 and 4.2 in this generation are both bulletproof, though, the latter is underpowered. The 4.6 will get you by just fine unless you do a ton of towing and hauling.

It all depends on your abilities, capabilities, money, and willingness to do the work. You can get a really good deal on a truck that can be fixed up to tip top shape if you want to go that route.

I like the 09-10's the best. They drive much smoother than the previous model and Ford finally worked most all the bugs out of the 5.4L engines with new heads, intake manifold, and phasers. Many 2011-2014 owners have had problems with the first generation Ecoboost's and 5.0l engines.

Direct injection..... no thanks. I'll be waiting on 2018+ used trucks with both port and direct injection. But to answer your question op, each gen has their issues, as with any other manufacturer. We now know most, if not all, the common issues with the 11th gen and working on the 12th gen.

Skip 11th and 12th gens and get a 13th gen. A little more basic 15/16 shouldn’t be too much more than a 13/14 anyway.

Depends on your budget. If you're strapped for cash, an 11th gen can be had pretty cheap. If the maintenance has been done, the plugs are a non issue. Just remember that the 12th gens also had the same 5.4 issues, though they were remedied with newer, redesigned parts. 5.0's still have timing issues and the 1st gen 3.5 eb had intercooler issues. If you want an 11th gen for just cruising around town, get a 4.2 or a 4.6. Those engines are pretty much bulletproofed, so long as they have been maintained....
