Default Gas tank questions, size/range

Hey guys..

I bought a 2007 XLT 5.4L 4x4 SuperCrew 5.5 bed from carmax and had a question about the gas tank, and range of the 4x4 5.4L... According to the link i got from the forum that shows me my window sticker, it says i have a 30 Gallon Tank. I have run the Fuel needle past E just barely, and only been able to hit 23-24 Gallons before it clicks the gas nozzle off. The last tank i used i filled it until the first click, rode it mostly city driving ( lots of elevation changes/hills where i live) and from F to E, my range was 270 miles. Today i drove to a city 2 hours away from Full. From there and back on a full tank, i got 310 miles on 3/4 of a tank.

it seems like my tank is smaller than 30 Gallons, but not sure, maybe my fuel needle is badly calibrated.. i have attached a picture of the bottom with the ford logo and model numbers (i guess). does anyone know if this means it is a 30 Gallon tank or different?

the info i'm looking for is:

  1. is the fuel tank i have a 30Gallon tank based on the image i attached??
  2. Is there any other way to tell what tank i have?
  3. If it is, how do i re-calibrate my gas gauge to show accurate level of fuel.
  4. Looking for folks that have same truck/options to see what range they typically get per tank.
  5. If you run 100% gas does it incrase your mileage a great deal?
  6. what range do you get?

Note: this is on the regular gas, with up to 10% ethanol. I have not run the 100% gas that is available in my area.

Funny you posted this as I wonder too. My vin says I have a 26 gallon tank, but I've put in over 27.5 gallons a few times. I average about 15 so right around 400 miles/tank

Do you mostly experience highway driving or city driving? Do you have allot of elevations in your area? where i live there are mountains everywhere. and you can't go 2 miles with out going up or down something.

Enter your VIN in this link (select the Vehicle tab, then Vehicle Lookup):

http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegS...C4C1.eccvas507

Then at the right lower box labeled "Minor features", select "There are more minor features for this vehicle, click to expand this list"

It should provide you with what the truck left the factory with in the way of standard features and options.

My window sticker says 27 gal. But the most I've every put in was 25.
I drive 95% city, and average 310mi/tank

I tried E0 for 2 months, but didn't notice a big difference. You'll get better results if you keep it under 2k RPM. I added 50 miles to a tank in my hypermiling attempt. But it's very difficult in city driving lol

I thought we had a 27 gal tank with an optional 35.7 which I have in my FX4... Don't ever recall seeing a 30 gallon option

Mine has a 36gal tank, which was a very rare option on a 06 F-150 2wd long bed at the time. Ford discontinued the bigger tank in the next generation for 2wd-made you buy the 4wd, I see lately that have added that tank back on the e2wd as an option Best mileage is to keep it under 65mph on the highway and use a light foot in city driving.
