Like others are saying, you can combine different features in the various trim packages. In addition to the standard items, my 05 XLT SCab has the 5.4 engine, 4x4, a center console with captains chairs, and electronic 4x4 control. If I had to do it again I'd go for the FX4 luxury package, but the options on mine make it more than comfortable.

Personally not a fan of the KR interior, I'd rather have the Lariat and the cash.
not really sure, i just heard they were an inch taller, not necessarily susp. wise so its probably the tires, but i love the KR interior, and yes they are expensive

another thing to consider is colors between the packages. I had an 06 xlt and it was grey, as is most xlt's ive seen in my area. Generally I see the xlt in white, grey, and black. FX4's i generally see in black, white, grey, and red. and lariats i generally see in burgundy with gold trim, navy blue with gold trim, forest green with gold trim, or black. I went with for the burgundy with gold trim and love it, but a part of me wanted the green with gold.

Most everyone has covered the basic differences between pkgs. And like others stated, you can get most options from the FX4 & Lariat in an XLT, but for a cost. Which that cost is usually more then if you simply purchased the higher model. And more than likely it will need to be special ordered.

Otherwise I went from an '02 F150 Lariat FX4 (before the name change to FX4 luxury pkg) to an '06 F150 XLT. I find I don't miss any of the items from the FX4 or Lariat, except the leather (but the wife hates leather) and heated mirrors. Otherwise my XLT has the 5.4L, bigger rear end with 3.73LS, captains chairs, sun/moonroof, power seat, tow pkg, practically everything I need.

The one major item I disliked about the 04+ FX4's, is they went from metal skid plates on the 97-03 F150 FX4's to a plastic skid plate. They were just to flimsy, so getting the FX4 just for the gauge cluster, shocks and center shifter wasn't worth it to me, since the FX4 was selling for roughly $4-$5K more.

Since this is stickied through CrashTECH's thread figured I would add something I found:

The King Ranch is my favorite, I love the seats. However I went with an XLT I found that has everything a Lariat has except for leather, which I don't want. I know I said I love the KR seats which are leather but as someone else said leather is cold in winter and hot in summer. Plus I could not pass up the deal I got, much cheaper for basically the same truck, saved about $6k

Leather seats are only cold if they don't have heat.

Actually, the King Ranch leather doesn't have as cold or hot of a feel as "regular" leather seats. My wife has a Explorer Limited that has leather seats, and her seats feel colder in the winter and hotter in the summer than mine.

I work in an industrial area and find that the silver and beige truck's hide the dirt a lot better then some of the other color's. Last truck was silver so I went with a Arizona Beige Lariat loaded out this time. 6 yrs old and still look's and run's great. Silver was only offered in 04 in the FX4. As long as they are Ford's they are winner's! I know silver was offered in the XLT but I wanted a Lariat or FX4.
