since replacing my spare hoist a couple years ago, i try to remove, clean and surface shield the spare and hoist ince a year. my fpdm was new right before i bought my truck… so now fpdm is 9 years and 95k aged (it was a dorman). although it worked perfectly fine (i have a fuel psi gauge on dash), i decided to pull and inspect this year. it started to crumble in process.
worth checking it, even if it’s already been replaced once:
Nasty
Did that have the standoffs installed?
I think my fpdm is still the original but I keep thinking I should pull it off and install standoff bushings.
I have a spare I got out of a crown vic at.the junkyard in case it ever craps out.
Those are a hidden gem because they are in the trunk they don't get crusty

no standoffs. it may have lasted quite a bit longer, but wasn’t worth it to wait and find out when. id been carrying a new one for “someday” anyway.
i did install new one with standoffs and also sprayed down with surface shield.
Ok, I know this is a fairly well known fact to most but to those that arent aware this is a heads up. Now Ford has built one hell of a truck with the F-150 but we all know they have their quirks and the fuel pump driver module issue is one of them. The part name says it all, it drives your fuel pump so its pretty darn important but in Fords ultimate wisdom they mounted it to the frame cross member above the spare tire under the bed where its protected from damage in theory but its not protected from road grim and salt. Its made of a die cast type material and plastic and since dissimilar materials often like to do the die cast corrodes badly against the steel cross member, especially because its in an area that is difficult to wash and if you live in the rust belt like I do the problem becomes much worse because of the road salt. As you can imagine if this part corrodes enough it just stops working which means your fuel pump doesnt work. Often times the problem is wrongly diagnosed as a bad fuel pump which can be costly to replace when its not the actual issue. I decided to pull my spare down since I wanted to check the pressure in the spare anyways so while I was under there I had a look at the FPDM and this is what I found.
I picked up the Dorman name brand replacement part. I decided on this one after reading up on them, people are still having issues with the Ford part even after replacement.
I put some grease on the threads and some dielectric grease on the plug to keep water out, it didnt seem to be sealed well because it was full of sand. You can see the rubber spacers used to keep the module away from the frame.
This part was hard to find, no one had it in stock and I had to order this one and it took a couple days so save yourself a headache and check yours and replace it if it looks like mine did. Could save your butt from an expensive tow and time without your truck. The Dorman part cost me about $108, less than most tow company's charge to tow you home. Go check yours!
Ok would this cause my 07 4.6 to start and run good in park but have no power in drive when you hit the gas. If you barely touch the pedal you can get it to move but it seems like it's drowning or choking itself out if that makes sense thank you
