My sons 08 has been getting a Random Misfire Code--P0300 for the last 3 months now.
We have replaced plugs-COPs-Boots-Checked for Vacuum Leaks. Every thing we could think of and that we have read about.
The thing is though the CEL will come and go.
When the fuel tank gets below a 1/2 the CEL will come on for a few mile{25 miles} then go off. Or when he fills the fuel tank to the full mark the CEL will come back on. Then go off after a few miles {20-30 miles}.
The 5.4L runs fine no ill effects from the CEL.
I thought maybe the fuel pump is slowly going bad. {Have not had fuel pressure checked}.
We did remove and check the Fuel Pump Driver Module a few months ago. We cleaned it up and put some electric grease in the connector and a couple of spacers between it and the frame and reinstalled it.
I'm beginning to think it might have issues after 183K miles? And causing issues getting fuel to the spark plugs which is what is causing this P0300 code?
I went ahead and ordered a new module just to replace this old module. Fingers crossed this will cure his CEL light problem.
It's the only thing that I can think off besides the Fuel Pump that might be causing the CEL light within the Fuel Tank.
If any of You have any advice or thoughts on this matter please feel free to share. I am almost out of ideas.

Just a warning. I my truck broke the module and just wouldn't run. Not a big deal just had to replace and could drive again no issues. But be warned my friends truck had the same issue and it shorted his electronics and fried his ecu, big problem, $1000 in parts later he is back on the road but this isn't something to fool with. If you haven't changed yours just do it if it looks at all damaged. You light just save your self some money.
