Go to O'Reilly auto parts website and look up the part for both of them and compare part numbers

Gives 590-001 for both the 4.6l and the 5.4l engine ! Off to amazon I go !

And ordered ! My truck sometimes have difficulties starting, have not been doing it for some time but one never knows. Hopefully this will address that. Would changing the FPDM help the mileage a bit if it was a marginally working unit ? I saw that being asked but I do not think there was a solid answer ....

Thanks guys !

Ford called. Dorman FPDM AutoZone Part No. 590-001 fixed my issue. On the way to pick up the truck and tomorrow we start the 1300 mile trip over the Appalachians and home.

So I had to call AutoZone reserve the only Dorman FPDM they had in Orlando, rent a car, drive to the AutoZone and then take the part to the ford dealer(a 2hr round trip) for an install on Fri at 7:30am. Hoping this is the only issue and that the sales guys don't misplace the part before the service mgr gets back to work. The part, car rental, and labour at dealer will likely cost me $450. Listen to the advice of others and at least have a new FPDM in the truck if you have never changed yours.

Talking Thank you!

Thank you all so much for putting up this forum where people like me (non mechanics) can see photos and descriptions of how to fix things that go wrong with my truck (2006 F150 Lariat 4x4). With your help I was able to get the daRn spare tire to come down after finding a post on how to break out the broken lock on the spare tire. After that I was able to take off the FPDM in order to get the parts numbers to order a new one! Yay to me! Thanks again!!!!!!!

I couldn't get the image link to work for me so inserted a link to the photos of the FPDM at my FB page.

Absolutely love this site......can't say that enough. I just purchased a high mileage 05 Lariat and have been researching potential issues. Found this thread about the FPDM. I am going on a trip this weekend with the truck so I thought I would check the spare. Checked the FPDM while spare was down. This is what I found:

This is my temporary fix until I can get the part from Amazon. My local ford dealer wants $150. Oreilly's want $109.
