were you able to tell that was the problem before you took it apart or did you take it apart and then see it was the issue. How hard of a fix was it and how much is a new actuator?

Thanks again for all this info!!

you can't tell from looking, that's why i said to get the vacuum checked. as for fixing it, it's quite simple...part and new cv axle nut was 96 bucks shipped from tasca, dealer was like 140 with tax for both

1.take the tire off
2. remove the tie rod from the knuckle
3. unhook the hose from the actuator
4. remove the 3 bolts holding the actuator on, slide it up on the cv shaft
5.pop off the dust cap
6.take of the cv nut and discard
7. pop off the upper control arm from the knuckle

it will swing out towards you, CAREFULLY, maneuver the cv outta the knuckle, careful not to damage the splines

8. when its free, slip off the old actuator and swap them, slip it back up on the shaft
9.get the cv back thru the knuckle
10.re-attach the upper control arm and tie rod end
11. line the actuator back up, 3 bolts back in
12. hook up the 2 hoses on the nipple of the actuator
13. put the cv axle nut on
14. put the dust cap on
15. put the wheel and tire on
16. drink a beer and see how you saved 2 hrs labor from the dealer

MAKE SURE TO TORQUE ALL THE NUTS TO THE PROPER SPECS

Well, found that the actuator is not holding a vacuum so we found the problem. Do you have the part numbers handy and/or the torque specs? Thanks so much for the help. The end is in sight!

#9 shows the new actuator on the cv and then manhandle the cv bolt into the knucke and reassemble.

10. just reinstall it in reverse order

Piece of cake. Thanks again! Think I really need to replace the 2 nuts they say to replace? Any idea why they say to replace them?

they are nyloc nuts, so there are a 1 time use, i have re-used them in the past, however i always replace the cv nuts though, the tie rod end and upper control arm nuts always have constant pressure on them, kinda impossible for them to back off, however the correct way is to replace them, it's your call.

Hear that????? No? That's right because the problem is fixed!!! No mre rattle!!! Best part is it took only 45 minutes! I took it to a buddy who has all the right tools and we installed the new actuator over lunch. Can't thank you enough for the help, insight and directions. You saved me a ton of $$.
