Front 8.8 axle C-Clip Removal

How do you remove the C-Clips from a Reverse 8.8? Unlike what I'm use to these are very thin & can't get a grip on them with the needle nose pliers.

I THOUGHT the 8.8R had detent clips. If it's like I think it is you dont pull the clips, you pop the axle out with a prybar or slide hammer.
