So, I have been talking with Fords customer service group and they have contacted the dealership. The dealership is still claiming it is due to bad fuel and/or "normal operating condition" due to "carbon buildup". At this point they are telling me that I am on my own to figure it out.

As for fuel, I only run top tier (Costco, Chevron, Shell). I tried bringing to everyone's attention about TSB 14-0114 and everyone is playing dumb. They say it does not apply to my vehicle.

When I asked everyone if the plugs were checked I am told NO. I asked is there a way to correct the carbon buildup and all I hear are crickets. There obviously has to be a way to correct this but no one will give me an answer other than "normal operating condition".

If anyone can give me some advice as to how to proceed further I would greatly appreciate it. This is absolutely insane and I am not willing to just take their answer and move on. Everything I have read is that "spark knock" can cause damage to the engine to include blown head gaskets, ring damage, cracked piston lands or flatten rod bearings. If this is true I need this fixed now!

Also, using the Android app Torque Pro and an OBD2 adapter I was checking my sensor readings while driving. My engine timing is severely wack! Should it pitch +20 degrees suddenly then retard -10 degrees? Engine coolant is staying steady at 195 even on a hot day. Intake temp is getting hot at stop lights but I guess that's normal? The intake temp makes no difference once the vehicle is at OP temp. If I'm on the freeway for 10-20 miles and get off the freeway it immediately starts knocking when I come to a stop.

The plugs in it are motorcraft and were changed 10/2016 at 52,500 miles. I currently have 68,000 miles on the odometer. Is 15,000 miles all you get out of a set of plugs now?

Should I try the seafoam route or is there a "carbon removal" process?

All that is, is the cam phasers. The knocking you hear at idle is the cam phasers not completely locking in (there's a little locking pin inside the phasers that's supposed to lock into a hole at idle, but doesn't do it completely). Everything they've been telling you is a lie.

These engines don't get affected by carbon build up all that much, but running Seafoam in the tank will help clean up what amount of carbon might be built up.

In the video I uploaded the vehicles in drive with the e-brake set. It's the same way they test the VCT solenoids supposedly. I had a former Ford Tech tell me to do that when I shot the video. In park and at idle it only makes the noise slightly every once in a while if the air conditioning is on.

Ok, I just watched the video. It definitely isn't cam phaser noise. That is most definitely NOT normal, sounds a lot like piston slap from pre-ignition. The very late 2006 into early 2008 model year 5.4L engines had issues with thrust washers going bad, but that would make a very different noise with lateral play in the crank.

at this point the dealerships kick me off the property because I got into it with the service managers. He is trying to say that "spark knock" and according to Ford it is normal and will not do damage to my vehicle.

From everything I've been reading it sounds like even if I go through their customer helpline or corporate I'm still going to end up having to make the repairs myself and pay out of pocket even though I have an extended warranty.

if anybody can give me some inside I would greatly appreciate it. I'm at my wit's end swear after this I'm never ever buying a Ford again! don't get me wrong, I love the truck, I just hate the service I've been getting!

1. find a different dealership!
2. You have a cam lob problem, I had the same issue with my 2004 3V. It's was going to between 2500 to 3500 for the top half of the engine rebuild, That is not normal.

Also, Do you live in Florida by chance? If so, you can file a complain with the insurance commissioner (go figure)

We only have four dealerships here in Las Vegas. I've tried them all and they're all playing the same game. They are all falling back to Ford & saying " normal operating condition" or "carbon build up".

They even pasted it on my last service ticket.

I've already called Ford. They're siding with the dealership. I offered to send the video to them so they could see what's going on but they said they can only get information from the dealership.

I spoke to them again today and they said they were going to try and contact the dealership again. But the person I was speaking to "Phyllis" did not seem to care at all and it appeared it was a waste of her time. I asked her several times for my case number also and she just avoided it and would not give it to me.
