Default To flush or not to flush 2005 Lariat 98k miles

Good day all,
I bought a great 2005 Lariet with 64 k miles in 2014, coming up on 99 k now and thinking about the transmission. I can tear apart an engine and fix just about anything but have never gotten into a automatic trans, honestly they scare the *&%$# out of me with regard to failure. I don't have slipping problems or temp problems but I was wondering if a preemptive flush should be done. The fluid is a little dark but doesn't stink. What do yall think?

Drop the tranny pan and change the filter.. add about 5 qts that came out when you drop the pan.. You can opt to replace the pan with one with a drain and do this again or you can keep dropping the pan to replace 5qts every 5K miles for a total of 15 qts. pan gasket is re-usable.

I'll ask because I'll probably end up doing this soon (117k miles), with the pan removed, does the filter just unbolt/unscrew and drop out?

No bolts on the filter. Just pop it off

Dorman transmission pan comes with a drain plug, it's cheap, and it's one of the few Dorman products I'll actually recommend. You can replace the drain plug with a Fumoto valve, too.

Even better. One less release device to inevitably strip. LOL! Thanks!

As already stated, no flushes just drop the pan, change the filter and refill to spec. Flushing trans in my experience has led to more harm then good.

Default Yes on the drain plug type pan and changing fluid every few days

Clean magnet ! use only mercron V mc . Amazon . Dorman drain plug pan on amazon .
If you don't have a stacked trans cooler get one installed ,heat destroys transmissions . Cooler should be installed after the radiator loop -transmission return side .
I would change 20 quarts over about a week or so every 30k maybe . Depends how much towing you do . Or heavy loads .
If you pull heavy loads keep speed down use a ac type thermo on your cooler and check it now and then ,Anything over 200 and its trouble, 225 and you get damage .
I have the tow package and I leave that thermo there all the time . I pull around 6-7k .
I use my old lubes for large burn piles.
