The Final Repair Guide to 5.4 Cam Phaser Tick/Knock Sound
Can anyone suggest someone in the North Houston area who is familiar with the F150. I have had my cam phasers replaced about 2 years ago by the dealer, at my cost, (and Im not going back to them) now I hear a rattle that comes and goes depending on my acceleration and when putting into gear. I need to get it listened to and looked at to see if its the timing chain issue. Truck is a 2004 with about 83,000 on it and frankly I'm wondering if I should just cut bait with this damned thing. My mileage is slowly getting worse also, even when driving it like a granny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello every one, Well I have made my final payment on my truck today and now it is time to get my truck fixed. I have finally found the tool I have been needing since I have bought this truck. I have spent all day in viewing videos and really checking this thing out and now it is time to spend some money where it is desperatly needed in aiding me to fix my truck and hope it helps me as well as you all. I have found finally a program to run on my laptop and the piece to hook to the obd2 on any vehicle after 1996 and newer. You can also use your android phone and or tablet to view it constantly while driving, you can monitor vaccum, fuel pressure, oil, temps,o2 sensors, and more as long as the ecu monitors it and the vehicle has the sensors for it you should be able to monitor it. I am getting the blue tooth, and the wired one so I can monitor while driving. They are around $ 40.00 for both about $20.00 for each and thats well worth it compared to going to dealer and paying $ 90.00 a crack every time you do something to you truck or just want them to check it. I know the dealers is more suffisticated but this is better than guessing and throwing money in it like I had been doing. Here is a link to check out some videos and make your own call. http://youtu.be/2oKi14-KyCc , there are more expensive programs out there and one you can actually reprogram peremiters on the ecm but that one i will get in to later i just want to get my truck back on the road. I will let you all know how it goes when I recieve mine and will make a video of how it is doing now and my progress. I hope this helps us all.
The part I am talking about is ELM327, here is another link for the program they suggest for computer and android phone http://youtu.be/RKNEASzj2ak thanks again.

Well i just bought the 2 I wanted. I payed $17.95 for the blue tooth ELM327 and $16.19 for the wired ELM327. They should be here around 2/1/2013 so I will find out how they do soon. I hope I have been really helpfull with this info. You can get these on ebay brand new from interfuse. If you are going to invest in a scan tool you are going to pay at least $40.00 for one at harbor freight, just to turn off the mil and pull the codes why not get this tool and do a whole lot more for less money and have a lot better chance of diagnosing the problem of your vehicle and the satisfaction of doing it your self and saving money and not paying boat loads to the dealer unless you have to.
No I am not selling them, I wish I could take the credit for them. lol. But since I have had this problem with my truck and all the reading and research I have put in to trying to get my truck fixed and thousands of dollars invested in trying to fix and have gotten really no where. I am very appreciative that the 2 days of reasearch has maybe gotten me closer to be able to see inside of the motor as to what is going on and to make an affirmative decission as what to fix. Also in being able to help others with there diagnoses of there vehicles as well. This forum has been very helpful and the more info we can extend the better for us all. Also i find it very cool as to be able to use my phone while road testing and not having wires every where.

My son had his f-150 done that was running real good but had the tensioner/chain dragging noise. had phasers tensioners and chains put in. Sounds fine until truck warms up then it won't hardly run. The Mech is stumped, any ideas?

My sons 04 f-150 just had chains, phasers and tensioners done and the truck runs good until it warms up and then it sputters and runs poor. The mechanic has no idea what is wrong. The truck was running great before just had the death rattle that was the passenger chain extremely loose. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?
Thanks for any help
Thanks for any help
I am going to be going to a stealership to have my truck worked on for the phasers issue, is there anything beside what I have listed below that I should have replaced? Also has anybody had a dealership do it lately that can tell me how much it ran them.
David
both phasers, timing chains, tensioners.
