Default Down and out for over a YEAR.

Hello All, I have been reading this post and checking on pricing for parts. My 2006 F-150 FX4 has been down for over a year do to several issues. First it was miss firing, then from miss firing up in the exhaust it caused the front cone in the lower right cat to desinergrate and plug up the back cone. I think due to the back pressure may have caused the timing chain tensioner seal on the right side to blow, but I am hearing a slight tick in the right side in witch I am thinking to be the timing tensioner. I have put a new cat on and now when you put it in drive it stalls out, I have by passed the cam sensors on the right side and you can drive a little bit but will stall in a turn or letting off gas pedal and idles a little eratac.Has any one experinced this with there truck. Also I just found out from Auto Zone here in North Carolina that they will price match Rock Auto. So I can get the phasers for $111.99 x 2= $223.98 timing set for $196.79 grand total parts except gaskets $420.77 plus no shipping charge just tax. Also the valve cover on the right side seems it is going to be a pain in the **** unless I just lift it as needed and not totally remove. Thanks in advance for any help.

Valve covers are not as bad as they seem, pull the inner fender well which by the way will require a 5.5mm socket. The guy who did that really needs a beating just no since in it. Dont forget the 20% off at AZ now also.

I have a question about the seemingly rampant cam phaser/timing tick. Will this harm the engine if left alone? My truck has 114k on it and I've done all required maint. on it including the plugs (which was easier than doing the plugs on my 1999 5.4....at least i thought.) Other than the ticking/thumping my 5.4L runs perfect. I can live with the "noise" as long as it doesn't do any damage.........Thanks.

No problem! I was actually hoping you had a great coupon code! That would have been a killer deal.

Depends on if its Phasers or tensioners. The tensioners will have adverse effects, chain slap breaking the guides and then as much as rubbing a hole in the timing cover. Phasers, just poor performance and noise unless they come apart and metal goes about the motor. Do it yourself for $500.00 or less and not that hard at all. As FordBabe had posted if you have the cash do the lash adjusters at the same time and you will not be back in there. Hell if you have the cash do the cams, followers and all. $1000.00 for a complete upper end.

Is there a way to tell if its one or the other? My limited knowledge on the issue would lead me to think that if it was a timing part issue the noise would be in the front of the engine. Or will the timing issue cause the cam tick?
