good job WB! Your correct, it's a pain but your are saving over 2k. I noticed in FordMaco (sp) that he charges the cut rate of $2700 and most shops over 3k.

I owned and drove every day a Jaguar XJS. Could I afford a car like that? Hell no. Bought it with several dropped seats on the heads. I rebuilt her and performed all the maint for almost 10 years. It's through determination and ingenuity that folks like use beat the system.

That's funny. I owned an XJS V12 for a while. Also did some work on that car.
Not the easiest car to work on.

The job is going well. Putting everything back together now. Phasers are in and torqued. Ready to install the chains.

Default Ford parts? We are all on this thread because of failed Ford parts

Hope you don't have the issues many of us have had using non-Ford parts.
Remember we are all on here because of failed ford parts

I recently bought a 2007 F-150 with a 3V 5.4L 148K miles. I'm having some noises and found this thread and I would like to make sure my problem is the phasers before I spend $1500 on parts and tear into my motor.

So there is a light ticking on normal operation and from what I have read this is normal for these motors. My issue comes to be when the truck is fully warmed up and I go into reverse the RPMs seem to drop and it gets shaky and very noisy sounding like a diesel. This is more prevalent when it's loaded with a trailer in reverse but it has happened once or twice without the trailer. If i put it in neutral and give it some gas the motor smooths out and the sound goes away.

Also I was watching the how-to videos on youtube and the tech recommended only using the Ford Timing kit with all new updated Ford parts over and of the aftermarket brand kits. There is a significant price difference where the Ford kit is about $800 and the Cloyes kit plus phasers I saw recommended on here is $500.

The timing kit I purchase has been working great for me and far less that $5-800.

Angry Knock or Tick after Phaser Repair

Hi all, very new to this forum and hope you all can help me out. I have a 07 F150 5.4L 4x4 and having a knocking sound after the engine is up to temp and I have driven it somewhat hard (3000 rpm at shift). It sounds like someone is under the truck tapping on the frame with a hammer but lightly. I will stop or hid when you rev the engine above 800 RPM, it only happens at idle and after the above described. I let it idle for 5 minutes and it will stop. Last weekend I changed the following parts; phasers, timing chain, tensioners, oil pump (w melling 360), water pump, VCT Sol, and oil and filter (MC filter w Mobil 1 5W-30 oil). I have crawled all over this truck with a stethoscope to find it and cannot. Ive been all over the valve covers, timing chain cover, oil pain, bell housing, exhaust, ac compressor, belt tensioner, ect.... I have no idea what it could be. Any of you ever hear and fix this issue?

Does it have a metallic like tapping to it? Could be a loose spark plug. They aren't supposed to back out anymore but it has happened on these engines as well.

I just got done checking all the plugs and replaced all COP’s whiles i was there. All plugs tight (plugs new 15k miles ago). Also should say all the new parts are fomoco parts except timing chain kit, its a cloyes set. Any ideas?
