The Final Repair Guide to 5.4 Cam Phaser Tick/Knock Sound
WOW - I muffed that one completely @crewcabf150. MY apologies for sure. Having recently exchanged comments with another forum member concerning O2 heater circuit codes after an engine swap - and I was theorizing with him about a damaged wire. Got that confused momentary with our discussion. Scratch what I said about replacing O2 sensors.
But similarily - I stand by the diagnostic statement with the injector circuit too. If the wire checks good - and is not shorted to ground, and the component (an injector in your case) has been swapped out or replaced, what else can one check. The ECU checks the injector circuit resistance and monitors the voltage drop across the injector coil during normal operation. If the resistance or voltage drop accross the injector coil is out of specifications, it sets the P0201 code. And I DO NOT KNOW HOW one is supposed to check an output port of the ECU - other than swap it out. And as I stated in the prior post, if anyone knows how we are going wrong, I hope they chime in.
BTW: There should be a new thread started for this discussion and get it out of Final Repair Guide to 5.4 Cam Phaser Tick/Knock Sound.

I know this isn't pertaining to the phaser problem But my problem did start with the ****ing phasers.
So, before I figure out how to transfer this to the appropriate thread ( which I will do later)
I did the unplugging of the #1 injector loom at both ends and did a ground and the tan wire check and it showed a 0 of the ohm scale.
Is there a short in the wiring causing the p0201 code?
Tanks

@crewcabf150 , I opened a new thread in F150Forums / Maintenance Shop and answered here:

Obviously as an owner a few F150 trucks, yes 3 now, I watch this thread a lot, and had posted on this thread myself in the past.
I am curious why people are buying Livernois instead of an HPTuner when they are locking out the phasers? Seems to me that the HPTuner gives you a lot more control and isn't just a canned tune to disable the VVT like the Livernois.
$200 cheaper and I can actually change calibration settings still after disabling the VVT, and have live data. Whether I want to change them or not, its cheaper, it does the same exact thing plus so much more.
I also did some more research and if you guys are locking out the phasers, look into tapping and capping the VCT solenoids to help with oil pressure.
These trucks can have VCT issues if oil pressure drops below 25psi at idle, which a lot of times happens on deceleration. The system is not meant to operate with this low of oil pressure, so often engines are condemned because of this. However 25psi at idle in a an engine not using a VCT system that is oil pressure controlled is more than sufficient to live a very long life.
I had to do the research on my own to find the questions a lot of us had asked Livernois and they couldn't give a straight answer. Now that I know that locking out phasers is a viable solution ( and why ), I want to know why the product they sell is $200 more then one that does more then just a tune.

There are several reasons as to why the majority of 3 valve owners choose to go with our noise repair kit over the competition. It seems that your major aversion to utilizing our kit is that we are not providing performance tuning in our kit. We can offer you performance tuning if you would like, it is our specialty! Our Cam Phaser Noise Repair Kit is the ONLY repair or service part that we offer. We are firmly an aftermarket performance and OEM R&D partner, not a repair facility. We developed this kit as we were chasing quadruple digits on a Shelby. As we worked around the timing and phasing components our engineers had an epiphany which led to us developing this kit. We then spent several years testing and perfecting our kit. We also spent a metric ton of resources on having the kit government tested ranging from purchasing various test vehicles and CARB-compliant software development. This makes our complete kit emissions legal in all 50 states! There is not another kit, tune or part that can make claim to that. There have been a myriad of companies that have offer "fixes" and/or "magical tunes" over the years...we are the only ones that have not fallen by the wayside. Our kit has withstood the test of time and has proven to be a safe and reliable product for all of your phaser related issues.
Yes being 50 state legal is YUUUGE! In California and many other states the competitor's kits just are not allowed. To me that makes Livernois the obvious choice for those in strict emissions controlled states.

Aside from the requirements of some states is the fact that the majority of truck owners are not inclined or qualified to start monkeying with their truck's PCM.
While HPTuners would be fantastic for guys like you and me, it is probably a little too advanced for Mr.AverageF150Owner who would probably screw up more than he fixed.
Livernois has identified a market and has filled that market quite nicely for those that need to be compliant.

My aversion is your ridiculous price. I do not see how you missed that. I thought I was quite clear. I did an email back and forth with one of your sales people, and all he could give me was the California spiel. In fact, that seems to be the only thing you can claim. However, being in Iowa, I really do not care.
I asked a simple question, you guys cannot answer it. Your over priced, and the HPTuner system has shown to do not only all that you do, but cheaper, while allowing further tuning in the same box.
If you want, I can certainly post the email, but I would think you would want to avoid further embarrassment.

Yes, Ill agree that maybe some people, should not have that kind of control, but the whole point is the price that is being asked. Hell, I would buy one if it was cheaper. I have a few of these trucks, and a few that I wouldn't bother changing anything other then getting rid of the annoying light. That may be worth 400 to me. No way 700. Now I can spend 499 and get a tuner with lockouts, and be able to do just that, along with the ability to make changes if I so desire. I guess That's just what Ill do.
I promise the day will come when people figure this out for themselves without having to be told, and maybe Livernois doesn't care. They have already stated they have 10s of thousands of customers per month.
True customer service had long walked out the door. I understand this. I look at what Livernois sells, and think to myself of the George Carlin parody of servicing the customer. ( I will encourage you to Google that video for a laugh )
I just think Livernois has taken advantage of a situation and people to gouge them. That is just my take on the situation. Lots of people here that own these trucks, and its a hard economy. Lots of us are poor and a stones throw from jobless.
I am close to that situation myself. I speak for a lot of people that would like to see a fairly priced product from Livernois just to keep a truck on the road so they can keep a job.

If the 1/4" bolt from your junk box idea seems a little too redneckish, you can take an old motor mount (or tire) and carve a lockout that looks exactly like the livernois one in a few minutes and use that.
Nothing here should be mistaken to mean that I am in favor of lockouts.
