Thanks for all the Helpful info, I could not have started this Job with out this information.
I currently have a 04 F150 With only 94,000 , I have a failed tensioner on Left side with catastrophic failure of the Right side Guide.
I see a lot of info from folks putting Aftermarket parts in and shortly after failing, should I spend the extra cash and buy OEM (I am a little worried since OEM failed in the first place) any help would be appreciated.

OEM PHASERS - For Sure
@SchwartWI
You have come to the right thread to get lots of good information on your repair. Don't slack on the job at this point if you are doing this much work. Go all the way and do it right. You will increase the risk of a return of problems if you cut corners. GO OEM PHASERS. I got mine from Fairway Ford Online store on Ebay. They have a 99.9% feedback rating with over 50,000 feedbacks. That's pretty amazing, and they corrected a shipping problem by overnighting another Phaser to me!!! I was very satisfied.

I went NON OEM on several other things besides the Phasers. I like the idea of the cast iron (ratcheting) tensioners over the OEM plastic ones. I sprung for MMR racing tensioner arms and Melling Oil pump. But I couldn't be happier with the results.

Got it all back together
Timing is fantastic and motor is quiet. Power is pretty good as motor relearn a everything,
However, getting a short quick rattle at start up,even with new motorcraft oil filter and 6 quarts of 5w20.
Best part is that the truck no longer skips or shudders between 1000 and 1600 rpm. It will lug down in 5th gear. The difference in driving experience is unbelievable !
The next test will be in three weeks when I have a trip planned with my travel trailer.

timing off???
Hello to all! Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread!!
I used this thread to replace my timing chains, guides , tensioner's, cam phasers a couple years back with great success!
But now...
I started hearing the noises a week back and had the error pointing to the passenger side going out again. Tore it down, set the crank key to 12 o'clock made sure my cam markings were where they were supposed to be marked my cams and took it completely apart. Now i have the timing chains on ,the guides , tensioners etc chains links are were they should be but the marks i put on the cam on my passenger side is off ..looks like maybe a tooth off. The other side is dead on and i cannot figure out what i did wrong. The pictures of my current situation are below. I did use the old chains but now im wondering if the one that was slappin is stretched?? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!! the side im having the issue with is the side that i had broken guides and chain slap going on so i dont know??
Any questions please ask im dead n the water on this project right now and need to figure it out. ive taken it apart and put it back to gether several times with the same result.
Dont pay attention to the yellow marked links that was something i did before taking them off.
Thanks ,
Todd

What brand of parts did you use for everything?
Did you also do lifters and roller rockers?
#2847
What brand of parts did you use for everything? Dorman phasers. car quest guides and tensioners.
Did you also do lifters and roller rockers? No
#2848
Found the problem. Get that Dorman garbage out of there. Replace all of it with Motorcraft and do the lifters / roller rockers.

Dorman phasers fail. Nearly every other brand of parts (except maybe Livernois) is known to cause problems that the Motorcraft parts do not.
