I would check the oil pressure.

I have been reading this thread and I really can't tell if it is the same issue as mine.
I have a 0340.
I had phaser, chains, tensioners, guides, vct valves changes.

Now 2 months after all that I get a 340 code.
At idle it wants to stall but doesn't, starts knocking. Give it gas goes back to normal. Runs good while driving.

Also at idle computer says cams are off sync +\- 3

So I added thicker oil and issues went away for now but I could tell it was on the edge of happening again...but it didn't.

Click on link below. That is exactly what my truck is doing.

Default **USED** 5.4L chain guides FOR SALE - 10¢ free shipping to China Only

WELL USED and SEASONED chain guides out of my 2004, 5.4L Triton with 212,000 mi. on them taken from under the timing cover/chains and oil pan/pickup screen. ***CHEAP***. Free Shipping (but to China ONLY - where they probably came from).

.

I'll even throw in a BRAND NEW Melling Oil Pump that I "ALMOST" installed -- but wound up NOT USING -- FOR FREE.

Other than this - and the A/C compressor that I screwed up and had to replace, I am thrilled with the outcome of the job and the trucks performance now. You can stand a nickle on edge on the air filter with it idling!!!!!!!

The "guides" proper are OEM. But I used Mustang Motorsports Racing metal "tensioner arm guides" and cast iron tensioners, lash adjusters & followers. // http://www.modularmotorsportsracing....x&cPath=4_7_58 //

And I bought a second Melling high volume oil pump.

Nice! The tensioner guides are purtty. To bad you can't get the lower guides aluminum with changeable nylon runners. The lowers are the ones that mostly break.

Oh yeah...did I miss something? How did you break the new oil pump?
