I know that my timing is correct , I had the help to retime it from a certified mechanic, I've drove it about 1000 miles since my timing job, any other ideas. Would it act like this if my converted was clogged?

After a lot of reading I have come to the conclusion that my tick is caused by lifters/lash adjusters. I want to do a full replacement with followers included. What would be a good brand to go with? I know I cant go wrong with motorcraft but I am just wondering what a good upgrade would be. Thanks.

Might as well replace the solenoids while you are in there.

misfires and loss of power could be a bad cat but I don't think that would give you a timing retard cel.

Got the 5.4L MMR Metal Tensioner Arms in yesterday and can confirm that the Chain guides (2L1Z-6K297-AA & 4L3Z-6M256-AA) are NOT included like the 4.6L kit. So off to buy the chain guides today.

Those are Dorman. Might want to do a quick forum search on those first.

To save some time... HC is right, don't let Dorman touch anything inside your engine unless you want to do the work twice or risk requiring a new engine in less than one oil change.

Default EXCELLENT SOURCE FOR PHASERS (6 Stars)

@LaMartian

I'm in the final stages of accumulating parts for my timing job. After much searching and fretting, I decided to order OEM phasers from Fairway Ford wholesale parts store on Ebay - at $229.00 each, free shipping. They have a rating of 50,000 at 100%. (That would be damn hard to maintain)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/04-thru-10-F...FRg-3J&vxp=mtr

WELL, when I received my order promptly, and it was short one part - a PHASER ! I sent an message through Ebay at 10:24 p.m. explaining the shortage and gave Order #, Tracking #, UPS Label #, weight of shipment and nicely explained the shortage. Then went to bed worrying about it since it was a $229.00 part that's missing though on the packing slip and already paid via paypal.

!!!!! The next morning I already had a reply - _sent before 11:00 p.m. the night before, apologizing for any convenience and advising that another PHASER would be sent the next morning by NEXT DAY AIR. And it was. And I received it by 10:00 am the following day.

Their 100% rating is well deserved. And I'm trying to figure out how I can give them 6 stars or a rating of 150%.

I also have had great service with Fairway Ford, I ordered a set of VCT solenoids and seals a couple weeks ago at about 10:30 at night, had them in hand 2 days later, well before the expected delivery date. If I could give them 6 stars as well, they would get it. Good luck with the repair and good job on going with OEM. Did you order the lash adjusters and followers as well, I found 13 out of 24 bad in mine when I changed mine out.
