The Final Repair Guide to 5.4 Cam Phaser Tick/Knock Sound
#2431
I'm a complete loss of understanding, replaced my timing components and can phasers, after I finished engine wasn't running right, tore it all back apart and redid the timing so now it is in time, everything was good until I drove it, even worse than before now, my truck won't hard let accelerate, very rough at idle, when I rev it up there sounds like there's metal in the exhaust not to mention the exhaust smells like gas, also there is no check engine light so I don't have any idea what the problem is, has anyone had this problem? Anything can help me at this point! Any help is greatly appreciated

First thing, did you remove or change the spark plugs during the repair? Loose plug(s) will give a tick like the phaser noise and also let a fuel smell in.
Second, recheck all of the connections to your COPs, fuel injectors, Cam Position Sensors, Crank sensor and VCT solenoids to make sure they click in place correctly.
Third, and hopefully this is not the issue because if it is, you are going back in, did you remember to put the reluctor ring back in in front of the crank sprocket? I almost forgot mine because I was so excited about putting it back together. Also, the teeth should face outwards I believe, if they are facing the wrong way, you will get a rough idle and issues like this including the noise.

I'm pretty sure I put the reluctor ring on the right way, when I took it for a test drive on of the lines near the first coil on passenger side was spraying violent because it wasn't clamped perfectly, I sprayed coil with brake cleaner, and blew out the hole and top of spark plug, seemed to improve the idle a little, I'm wondering g if I fouled a plug , would one plug cause my truck to drive that bad? They we're replace 10000 miles ago

I do think that one plug being soaked bad can cause issues, not sure how bad though. Did you double check all of your connections to make sure they were tight and are plugged in to the correct connections (don't think they will reach other connectors but really can't remember right now).

All of the wires are hooked up, I was thinking possibly throttle positioning sensor Bc of the rough idle but idk, if my timing is off would it throw a code, it just weird Bc no codes and no check engine light so I have really no clues, thank you for your advice so far

Credits to @vintageman , I do not know if a "Relearn" process will help, but a bunch of new parts mixed with existing parts and all the PCM's parameters lost due to battery being disconnected for an extended period may have it's little brain screwed up. Otherwise, it takes several drive cycles for it to build all its adjustment tables again. I am fixing to tackle the same job and interested in your outcome. If you haven't tried this (simple & inexpensive procedure), I recommend it.

F150Torqued, you are correct with trying to do the battery relearn processes and drive cycles, good point. With my truck, I always have to go through it after disconnecting the battery but it is usually just because of a low idle stall when at stop lights or in stop and go traffic, never got a rough idle out of it. When I did my repairs, I basically took a week off from work to relax and worked about an hour, took a couple hour nap and took my time with the process ensuring that everything was timed beforehand and that I looked at each part coming off real good. With taking my time, I still almost forgot the reluctor ring and did forget to spray and dip my VCT solenoids which caused a error code. I cleaned them, dipped them in oil and reinstalled on different banks and good to go but even with the error code P0012, engine still ran great. OP, clean your MAF, throttle body and if possible, throttle position sensor (good maintenance anyways), then go through the battery relearn process and see how she runs afterwards. Good Luck.
