I had everything changed/replaced. Slide rails phasers, chains tensioners, everything. Inside of my engine is clean, clean, clean. Spared no expense. Lasted 4 months. There is no good reason why this poorly engineered issue can't be properly corrected by Ford. What a pile of crap. First and last Ford I will ever own.

What brand of parts were used during the repair? If you didn't use Motorcraft going back in then you can't blame Ford. You could blame Dorman or Cloyes though.

Hey All,

Well i just got done disassembling the front of the engine, surprisingly there is very little sludge for 144k. Regular oil changes help. Most everything "look" good. no noticeable wear from the chain slapping etc. probably due a little to not overrunning it. i dont know maybe

here is what i did find

This is all that i was able to find behind the cover on the passenger side. I have to assume whatever pieces are missing , which is quite allot ( since the guide is what about 16 inches long ) are now in the pan.

now the delema on what to change out. as i said in my earlier post, im a fan of it it aint broke dont fix it.

^^ Simple. The OTHER guide, lol.

Ford revised (strenghtnend) the guides, as well as just aboot all the other timing set components.

Yer already in there - do you really want to go back in there... yet again???

IMHO - in addition to the complete timing set, change yer water pump.

And clean that pan and oil pickup screen.

Do I want to go back in there?? LOL .. not really. but overall it wasn't that bad.

new timing set. yep, thanks i didnt know ford revised them.

im curious if this is the reason for the codes i was getting p0011 p0021, p0345, overadvance camshaft timing, or if this is a side effect of something.

Over advance camshaft timing sounds like VCT solenoid problems or cam phaser problems. Both of which I would advise replacing with new Motorcraft parts.

Those are the same codes that I got when the phaser broke. They are definitely Phaser or VCT solenoid related. Change everything while you are in there and make sure you drop that oil pan. You won't regret it later if you do.

Does anyone have tips or suggestions on how to prevent the cams from moving when replacing the phasers? My parts finally came in and I'll be working on it all tomorrow. I've got a ton to do tomorrow before it starts raining Friday and I'm nervous about screwing up my timing. That's my only drawback of this project. Everything else is just nuts and bolts, that's the easy part.

Use a pair of vise grips behind the phaser on a non lobe part of the cam. Mark the cams so u can line them back up if it moves some

Thanks. Tomorrow is going to be hectic. The timing cover and crankshaft pulley are the only things keeping me from being at the timing stuff instantly. Planning to get started at 8AM and work all day on it.
