The Final Repair Guide to 5.4 Cam Phaser Tick/Knock Sound
So I out everything back together and it still idles rough after warm..throwing the same code P0022? I can't believe this we triple checked everything and it still is doing the same thing! I don't understand it, mechanic friend told me I warped a head but wouldn't it be looking coolant into he oil? Running rough all the time? I'm broke and now out of ideas? Someone please help.

^2 what brand of parts did you use, dormans have been known to be defective right away. Swap the VCT solenoids to the opposite banks and reset the computer, see if the code follows. If it does, clean the bad one with throttle body cleaner, dip in clean oil and reinstall. I had to do that as well. I had p0012, that took care of the code. Mine, however was not running rough. Swap them and see if it follows. Good luck

I will try this tonight...I purchased Dorman Phasers, I wish now I would have got OEM parts. I'll try switching them, I appreciate the help. Could the phaser already be bad....
Guess my question is if I switch the solenoids and they are working properly do I attempt to switch the phasers? I just dont understand how it runs perfect down the highway and occasionally idles really rough at a stop? Tearing that thing apart again makes me sick....I also purchased a new oil pump and replaced it while I was in there. New Cam sensors as well! My buddy said my computer might be going bad but I dont know. I dont want to take it to Ford but it looks like im running out of options???

Well I changed VCT solenoids and the same thing...rough idol and P0022 code....I'm just sick over this whole mess..mechanic told me my heads are warped and that's the rough idol and codes...I can't think it needs a new motor like Ford tells me on the phone before I even bring it over there??? I just don't know what to do next? Guess take it for diagnostics and see what they tell me and go from there.

This may be a long shot, but the camshaft position sensor or it's wiring could be faulty and sending the wrong information to the pcm.
Why does he think the head is warped? Is there coolant in the oil, oil in the coolant, has he done a compression test? Were the camshaft or journals damaged? Is there oil and/or coolant coming out the side of the motor at the head gasket? I may be missing something, but I don't understand why he would think a warped head would cause a p0022 code.

I agree about not replacing the motor because of someone's gut feeling. I think you should start a new thread and give as many details as you can. With your own thread, you'll probably get some more responses and ideas.
