Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that Rockauto was to blame I was just asking about the phasers they sell. I agree they are a great retailer.

Have the OEM phasers or tensioners been redesigned at all to minimize the failures? The OEM phasers I found are part# 3R2Z 6A257-DA is this the latest version? Should I go with the OEM timing chain kit also or is there a better option with tensioners that will last longer?

Sorry, I got my "guides" and "arms" terms mixed up in all of my previous posts. I meant to say the RH guide was the part that was broken in many pieces.

Ok, so the timing job solved the chain slap, idle shudder and lack of power under load/speed but an overdrive gear only jerk/misfire under load remained. Overdrive off and no misfires/jerks. Cleaned the MAF but it wasn't dirty and no effect. No codes set or pending. I thought it was the transmission going.

Read some posts about COPs or plugs going bad but won't trigger CEL light. Ordered eBay aftermarket COPs to try out and overdrive jerking seems to be gone. Strange it happens only in the overdrive gear. All the power and smoothness is restored. Replaced all eight COPs at 120k miles and finally all is good. eBay parts came with Ford OEM spark plugs but did not install because my second set only has about 30k miles on them.

It is most noticeable in overdrive because low RPM / high torque demand conditions are some of the hardest for a N/A engine coil to fire the plug and ignite the mix reliably.

Great explanation. I figured the overdrive gear would be easier on the engine components.

To those of you who have read this entire thread you have read my issues after I did my job....I am happy to announce she is finally running good again. Issue started with my cousin setting time wrong after we took a head off to get a broken exhaust bolt out of the head....apparently after/during that my cats got clogged as well as my MAS got screwed up. After changing the engine and getting the bent valves out of the way the problem remained until ford figured it out. I just replaced the parts today and she runs like a champ!

Of course that was all after replacing the timing components and pass side exhaust manifold on the old motor.

well all the other parts fixed the motor, but ford said the lack of power caused recently was clogged cats and bad mass air sensor
