I almost did the same thing! I had started to put the cover on and looked over and saw it laying on the bench!

If my timing was bad, could it melt my spark plugs like this? I thought it might have been from my Superchips programmer in tow mode or performance mode with too low of octane. 2005 SCrew FX4 240,000km or 150,000mi.

BTW, yes my phaser noise is VERY noticeable. Everyone mentions it if close by my truck when it's running.. Bar none. This thread is HUGE. I am new to forums of any kind so hopefully nobody mentions what bad timing does to plugs.
I'm worried that if my plugs 2&7 were cooked what else could've been damaged..

I forgot to mention that I'm running MSD coils as well.

Just finished doing this repair. Changed both cam phasers, timing set and all new gaskets. Truck sounds 100% better. It was a big job and took me 2 1/2 days with rain delays. Thanks to this thread for the advice.

Ouch.. at least it wasn't a part that will cause engine damage.

I once did heads on a Dodge 4.7V8 and forgot to tighten one cam bolt. The engine started, bit of noise, got extra noisy for a second and died.

Pulley bolt loosened up a bit more, spun off the key and bent some valves.

Ended up being another head job....

Did you look into the lockout kit before deciding to just replace the phasers?

Default Just replaced phasers but problem didn't go away. Recommendations?

So, following the advice of this forum, I took S_Varies 1st page of repair description to a local mechanic. My K_Ranch SCrew exhibited the dieseling sound and I described the issues. The mech replaced both phasers and the drivers side solenoid (the codes agreed with this repair). While he was in there, the high pressure AC switch was running at almost 500 lbs. He replaced it but it's still running at 400 which seems too high.

So, after replacing these parts, the unit runs better but it still diesels once or twice when it gets really hot and idles (like in July 4th rush hour). Any thoughts on what else I should replace to get the engine to behave.

It has 185K on it, so it may make more economic sense to get a reman. Thoughts anyone?
