I have a video on my phone off the noise but don't know how to post on here... It was like a clunking noise mostly noticeable from the driver side... Where the rocker failed...

No video, but it is distinct if it's the phasers. At idle when the truck is cold (not at full operating temp) there will be little noise (just clicking from injectors etc). Once it has warmed up at idle you will hear knocking at idle that sounds like low level diesel. I will never forget when a friend of mine walked up while my truck was idling and said "man you have a diesel, didn't know they made f150 diesels"

the diesel sound nails it. That is exactly what my truck sounds like. I'm going to print this guide up and bring it to my mechanic soon. We have a few road trips planned this summer and I don't want to get stuck.

If you have ANY mechanical aptitude and a weekend you can do this and save $1000+

Just joined to research this issue. I just bought a 08 F150 4WD. I had a ratcheting sound like the 4wd was partially engaging and what sounded like an exhaust leak when you started the engine. I brought the truck to the local stealer. They found a vacuum leak which I suspected was the issue with the 4wd sound. They wanted to replace a bunch of stuff totaling $ 900.00. I had them fix just the vacuum leak and that solved that problem at a cost of $ 300.00.

Then the second issue. The cam phasers...

"stealer": We can replace your engine for 8k.

"me": Holy! can you just repair the cam phasers?

"stealer": Well.... ya but you would only save about $ 1500.00.

"me": Huh? Holy!... Oh... a.. Ya you betcha...oooh... I'd better look into this.

Holy! Thanks for the info hey!
