Although the sprocket was chewed up, it was not missing any teeth and it wasn't bent or anything. I cleaned it and put it back on. Is the crank position sensor sensitive enough to be affected by a sprocket in that condition?
I have the timing cover and balancer back on but will remove them and replace the sprocket if it is going to cause trouble.

A little scuff on the reluctor ring should be okay. If its haggard, I would change it, Its in a little bit of an annoying spot to change it out again.
If its not bent or broken, should be okay IMO.

here is a update on my truck, tensoiners seals are shot flat and all *****ed up defiantly had low oil presure how bad we don't know, mechanic told me it was not to low that it has caused any damage, passenger side manifold cracked and leaking in to spots, 3 bolts where broken, all lash adjusters and rockers/followers looked to be in great condition (big relief) the mechanic told me the inside was a clean as a new engine thanks to Conklin Convoy Oil i swear by that stuff, camphsers will be done this morning will update you with that, now this all makes sense to me seeing it all torn apart, thanks so much Steve and rest of the guys for all your helpful info

And just to clarify, its not just ford that had OHV engine timing chain issues...
I just did another stretched to crap chain on a Honda.
These newer style engines just have more to go wrong!

yes even the mechanic said the same thing and that is why they wanted to do my truck so bad, so they could get a feel for what is coming, he said this will help them in the future for what to expect down the road and he said more will come

The dealership went back into the engine when we took it up and they said the tensioners had gone bad and that they replaced both, but when they droe it after it did the same thing. Thats when they took it to ford and ford said it has low oil pressure and thats why the cam phasers arent working correctly. The shop put a manual oil pressure gauge on it and he said it bounced all over the place but never went under the 10-12psi that it is suppose to have?
