Default fan clutch test

So my a/c is warm at idle, and when I'm moving it blows nice and cold. Looked online and most of the information leads me to a bad fan clutch because it's possibly not cooling the condenser at idle. My engine never overheats at idle, but I never let it idle for long(5 min most).

So, I went ahead and "tested" it by some method I found on the net.

1)At cold startup, I can put a rolled up magazine into the fan and it will stop, no resistance. It will however turn when I take the paper out, so that's OK I think (clutch barely engaged when temperature is low).

2)After driving 30 minutes and truck at operating temp, I do the same thing. The fan won't stop with the paper, so the clutch seems to be engaged. Granted I didn't really shove it in there so the blades don't get damaged, but for sure the clutch is WAY MORE engaged than at cold idle.

Does this mean the clutch is OK or am I missing something?

Sounds to me like your fan is working. My 08's a/c also warms up stopped at idle. I think this is a common issue with these trucks. Some here on this forum have gone to E-fans, and this eliminated the issue.

Condenser is probably clogged with dirt and bugs over the years, go to a car wash and pressure wash it, don't spray at an angle or get so close with the wand that you bend any fins.

x2 with this being a common issue. You might also check to ensure your system is full. Mine has a slow leak requiring about 1/2ish can a year. Usually same symptoms you describe when it's time to add some freon.

My 08 has done this since new.. it don't blow warm air but it's not ice cold like when moving.
