Factory spare tire mount

Factory spare tire mount
Question:
Does anyone know what is the largest size spare tire that can be fit underneath the bed where the OEM spare is mounted? (2006 SuperCrew) Thanks.

Actually, I have my 35"s off right now for the winter. I think I'll roll one out tomorrow, drop the spare, and see if one fits up underneath there. I did measure, but it's too close to be sure.... that's why I wondered if anyone kept theirs there.
I've heard some talk in other threads about where to keep a full size spare..... kinda surprised nobody's brought the question up. I'll let you know how it goes.

I 've been wondering about this... what was the width of the 35 you had fitting in there? Was it hanging down low enough for it to be too noticeable?[/
I've seen a few guys ratchet strap theirs standing up inside the beds. Now that's goddamn noticeable. Lol. If it hangs down a bit, no problem. Wonder how many guys are like me and drive around with nice, expensive looking wheels and tires, but don't have a spare other than the factory one under the bed. Asking for trouble. I'm buying a 5th tire and another wheel ASAP.

Haha, your right, that's pretty damn noticeable. I've got 35x12.5 toyos so I was thinking about getting a spare used 35 that's not as wide...So it wouldn't be as noticeable.
So this is prob a dumb question but should the spare rim size match the rim size that I'm running on the truck or is the only thing that matters here is that the height of the spare is the same height as the tires I'm running on the truck?

As far as I know, the only thing thats critical is the overall diameter. So rim size wouldn't matter as long as the rim you use is the correct size (width) for the tire. I tried finding a 35" diameter tire that would fit my stock spare's wheel... no luck so far. All I found is 35x12.5 in various wheel diameters.
