I have a 2004 FX4 SCAB...I wonder if I have the right head unit and the pre-wiring?

Only way to know for sure is to peak at the back of the head unit; if it has more than one "female" wire harness plug in its lower right to center, you have the unit that will drive the factory subwoofer. I can't remember for sure, but the part number might be on a label that is on the top of the radio. You'll have to remove the plastic dash cover that surrounds the radio, then remove the two small screws that hold the top cover (over the radio) to view for this stcker with the part number. If it is not there, well you'd only have to remove the 4 bolts that hold the radio in place and slide it out to see the wiring plugs. I've seen 3 arrangements: first arrangement will have just the one female plug (power, speakers), second arrangement has two plugs, first plug is power, speakers and second plug (far left) is the subwoofer plug. Third arrangement has the two mentioned, plus one plug between the two used for steering wheel volumn and station select control, plus the overhead center console entertainment (vidio) DVD player). Go to EBAY MOTORS, do a search on Ford F150 radios, and you'll see all these types for sale. Most of the salvage yards that are selling them provide the Ford part number, so you could write them down and then call or visit your local Ford parts dealer and ask them to verify. Plus they usually provide a picture of the radios back side. You'll see the 1 to 3 possible plugs I'm refering to. Also be aware that from 2004 to 2005, Ford used what I'll call the "regular" antenna plug. In 2006 to 2008 (our models), they went with a smaller antenna plug, so an adaptor (easily bought) will be needed to adapt these radios to the early trucks. The rest is a easy bolt in.
If you do have the radio in question, you can look for the audiophile wiring harness; some have said that the "up scale" trucks are pre-wired. The audiophile (subwoofer) wiring harness is tie wraped behind the radio to a metal brace. From there it would run to the back seat, fastened down under the carpet. Other threads mention having to pull back the carpet to locate it (if you have it), as Ford fastened it to the floor with a clip, unless the truck already had the subwoofer.

The plug, if there is definitely under the carpet in the rear. I had to cut my carpet in my 06 Screw to find it but it was there. Then i had to get it dislodged from the clamp which was holding it down. In the dash there was a harness clipped to the dash on the left toward the instrument cluster. I bought the head unit and sub on Ebay for less than $300 for both. Took all of 15 minutes to make the switch. Sounded great once I upgraded the door speakers. My 08 has the audiophile and I love it. This is coming from a former Rockford Fosgater...

I appreciate the info but I want to make sure someone has had luck doing this with a super cab. I'd hope they'd be the same but everyone trying it is always doing it to a supercrew except the original poster. I pulled the drivers side sill plate out and raised the carpet up enough to stick my hands under the carpet on the drivers side. I couldn't get under the seat but I kind of felt around the back of the drivers seat and the console looking for the harness. I even screwed up one of those little sill plate clips that apparently can't be bought separately as they only come with a new sill plate. I don't want to tear up my whole interior looking for something that no one has ever found in a Supercab or wasn't even an option on the Scab.
