I have seen to many people get screwed on them. I almot bought one with 90k miles and brought it to my buddy's Deisel shop and he told me do not buy the 6.0. I had found a really good deal on a 06 Harley truck that was lifted and bad ***

Just trying to help you make an informed decision bro. I know it cost about $5000 to make these motors "bulletproof" and I've considered it.

I've got a 6.0 in my F550 service truck and its a real dog! Thankfully it's a stick shift because I've really got to tach it up to get any where. It's already had the turbo rebuilt twice and it's got less than 80k.

The 6.0 is not that bad... do an egr delete... if you don't do any other mods, you shouldn't have any trouble

The reason it had so many problems was because America used dirty diesel when it first came out. It's a really fine tolerance motor. The head studs are junk on them. They simply didn't use enough of them and they also used torque to yield bolts so over time and being pulled out they became brittle. The 6.4 uses pretty much the same bolt pattern but the made the bolts quite a bit bigger. The early turbos have a problem with getting gummed up if you don't actually use the truck. I.e if its used for a lot of short trips the vanes can get gummed up and stick closed causing turbo overheard and failure. If you do make a lot of short trips beat on it a little and get that turbo to spool hard a few time. The EGR delete is a nessecity to help keep heat out of the motor. Also do the exhaust system to a freer flowing set up to help keep the engine cool once again. Also make sure oil changes get done often and if you dad can afford get an aftermarket set up to filter the oil. The early 6.0 had these problems but should of been fixed under warranty. They did have injector problems but they got fixed in I want to say 06. The later model the 6.0 is the better. When this motor was designed they used European designers to engineer it and they didn't know America still used just low surfer diesel where as they were already using ultra low sulfur so that caused a lot of they 6.0.
And ya they had some lawsuits because ambulances would break down and the person on the back died a few time.

The 6.0 is a great motor is taken care of and fixed properly.

Look up powerstrokehelp on YouTube. He's a guy in Georgia if I remember right and all his shop does is work on powerstroke. He goes over everything about the 6.0 even a good video on how to buy a used one.

6.0 is great once "bulletproofed"

some have the issue others dont at 130k they should have already had the issue or it probably wont have any issues.

FYI more problems seem to come up on 6.0's by people who baby them. people that run the **** out of them dont seem to see the same issues.

Id plan on egr delete, studs, and head gasket at a minimum though if you want to not have to worry about it.

This^ it's an awesome motor when bulletproofed. We did it on our F-450 and it's never missed a beat or acted like it wanted to get hot or lose power. It'll pull a loaded horse trailer 65 down the highway all day and never break a sweat. 90% or the people that have nothing but problems with them beat on them and treat them like a gasser.

With the head gasket use oem. The aftermarket ones are garbage.
