Exclamation F150 Upgrades

Upgrades for a 2004 F150 5.4L 3V:
Okay, I am planning on buying a 5.4 2004 soon (or 2005, 06 etc.) Anyways, I'm looking for ways to amp up the horsepower. I'm not looking for small upgrades like an air intake, I want to build up a truck that would RAPE a brand new RAM. I'm looking along the lines of 450whp although, the higher the better.

However, I cannot get a supercharger, turbo, or new engine. As my Dad is a Ford Dealer and he says I'm retarded if I think I'm getting one of those. (Engine safety issues related.) So please don't list that, and also don't be like "Get a K&N Air Intake your truck will gain 7,000 HP!!!" >_<. I'm talking reasonable upgrades including new cams, exhaust, intake manifolds, headers, etc.

Please Post Replies.

Your simply not going to get 450 hp out of some tunes and headers on a 5.4 3v. The only way your touching that is to put on a super charger. The 5.4 3Valve is making around 305 at the crank but by the time it gets to the wheels they only make around 225Hp stock. With a tune on it and intake you may see 275 then with headers you may see 310 or so but you are not touching 450+ rwhp without a super charger

Thumbs up

Thanks for replying, but I didn't mean a few upgrades I meant like a MASS upgrade like pulleys, pistons, throttle bodies etc.

if you have the time and money, consider boring and stroking, great way to gain your horse power, degree your cam is good for torque. if you look at boring i would be comfortable at .30 over for a daily driver. than go into things such as bigger throttle body and larger injectors.

Bolt ons will not get you there. You will have to go inside the engine to get to your goal.

If your sole goal is to go fast in a truck, why not get a sports car? Not trying to bash or anything but buying a truck thats 5-7yrs old to beat a Ram (which is only good for looks and going fast) isn't a good idea. You wan't 450whp but no forced induction.

Like others, if you're really set on this. Bore/Stroke your motor, cams, etc etc.

IMO, its not worth doing it when with the money you can buy a decent sized sports sedan.

Yeah I know but I have to lug around hockey gear for around 7-10 times a week and I need to tow horse trailers and such. Also as a first time buyer I can't really afford a GT500, because my dad is only paying for half of my car/truck.

Please don't flame about "daddy buying me a car" as everyone in my city gets brand new caddy's even though they don't make as much as my dad (honestly wtf is with that?!)

At the same time I want my truck to be fast but as long as I live in my dads house I'm not getting a forced induction system.

Don't worry about your truck being fast. It's a truck, not a race car. You plan on using it for towing/hauling stuff around. You can haul all the stuff you want with it. These trucks can get up and go, just not as fast as a Tundra or a Ram. These trucks WILL outwork them and outlast them. Make your truck your own when you get it. Put in a nice sound system, nice all terrains with rims, etc etc.
