I was leaning towards this, too. Any reason someone might do this to you?

I'm a firefighter and I've never seen that bad! Usually just interior that catches. When did you realize it was on fire cause that pic looks like it was cooking for awhile. Sorry for the loss looked like it was a good truck!!

All stock, nothing added. It was exactly the same as when I drove it off the lot and there weren't any external electronics in the vehicle. We were out of town when it happened so we are not sure how long it was burning, but the fire was reported at 0412 and extinguished at 0445. Firefighters got there in 5 min. Cudos.

~30 mins to extinguish? That's gotta be a record for the longest car fire - which FD is this? Had over 50 car fires in my career so far - cant remember one taking more than 10 mins, and thats even when the tank catches.

Sounds scary, but I've seen all makes and models go up on their own - investigation usually rules out foul play. As for the guy who commented that usually just the interior goes - a car fire with the interior involved is almost always arson. Almost always starts in the engine compartment, and rarely gets past the firewall.

Could be anything - overheated tranny, electrical short, overheated battery, squirrel playing on your battery or chewing the wrong wire, etc.

I'm a firefighter and I've seen an f150 that caught on fire sitting in a parking lot. I think it was an 05 or 06. It was sitting in the lot for over an hour and just caught on fire. All stock. It was a sad thing to see. But on the bright side, it damaged a dodge next to it. 30 minutes is a long time to extinguish a car fire. I've never seen a car fire take more than 10 minutes to put out. Have you had any maintenance done to it recently? Bad battery could also have caused it.

I know absolutely nothing about car/truck fires, but doesn't it seems strange that the truck is burned from headlights to tail lights (even the bed) yet it didn't get hot enough to damage the tires or wheels. Maybe the pictures aren't showing it, but if I was to guess someone torched this thing.

Like I said....I know NOTHING about this stuff, but I'd like to hear an opinion from someone that does. I'm sure the OP would feel better if he knew that his wife's car wasn't going to do the same thing. I know from experience that the insurance companies don't feel it's worth it to find the cause.

Sorry about your truck.
