Default Exhaust??

I am looking to change to dual exhaust and I know I want side exit. However, I cant decide if I want them in front of the rear tire or behind. Is there any benefit performance wise to either. Thanks!

I doubt you'll notice any difference in performance from either. The shorter pipe coming out in front of your tire might be a bit louder, but I think that's about it. In front of the tire isn't as common and IMO looks better, but it's your truck!

I agree, I also like the look of the exit in front of the tire, but I also do not want it to be extremely loud either. Call me crazy, but I want to have my cake and eat it too. Would there be a specific type of exhaust that would allow me to accomplish a moderate sound and still exit in front?? Thanks!

I'm actually looking into upgrading my exhaust as well. For what you're looking for, I would suggest an 18'' Magnaflow and have your exhaust shop bend the pipes where you want them. I'm most likely going with the 14'' but I'm also doing SI/SO so that should keep it pretty quiet still.

I have dual magnaflows on my 08 FX2 and have them both straight out the back (either side of the spare tire) I did this to cut down on rock chips (altho I still get a few) vs. having them right behind the rear tires.

+1 for the magnaflow muffler. at idle is barely louder then stock but when you floor it the truck sounds great.

as far as in front of the tire vs. behind, its really all about looks. performance will be the same. you may hear the exhaust more when the windows are open because the exhaust is closer to the cab when dumping before the tire but if you dont mind that, do what you think looks best.

exhaust is just metal, it can be chopped and welded infant times.....in other words, if you dont like one set up, its easy to change

Dual in front, single behind.

In front of the rear dude! Not many trucks have this set up. Lightning style FTW

In front of the tire. It looks better and the tips won't take the punishment from debris spit by the tires.

Magnaflow has a kit, sido behind the passenger rear wheel. Just a cleaner look to me. Buy the muffler and have an exhaust shop bend the pipes where you want them. Post a pic when you get it done.
Just exhaust you won't notice a performance or mpg difference. You will love the sound!
