Im having a similar issue with the rough idle, and I've been investigating a heavier oil, and right now i'm testing out valvoline maxlife 5w-30. Initial results are that it seems to smooth out a bit, but it's not very noticable. A few other factors make it difficult to draw a hard conclusion.
-I live in michigan, and the weather is changing
-Replaced spark plugs, #8 Coil Pack, Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Fuel Pump Control Module.

Any one of these things could improve the idle, but i really believe this comes down to adequate oil pressure at idle, and the ability for the valve timing to adjust.

At idle, the truck runs like it has a real hard cam, right?

That means that the timing isnt adjusting properly, need adequate oil pressure, run a thicker oil, or at least try it and take note of the results.
