ever done a outer tie rod replacement?
its been a long time since I've been on the forum, but I got a new set of Nitto A/T's recently, I got my alignment done and the salesman told me my outer tie rods need to be replaced. they wanted to charge me 266 dollars, I said no way I rather do it myself. I've never done them before but I figure it cant be that difficult, any advice? its an 06 2wd

Outer tie rods are easy! brake the nut loose 2 turns then undo the nut that holds it to the wheel, bang it with a hammer to break the mechanical weld. then unthread the tire rod. Install new one and tighten the nut 2 turns. Then get alignment

Be sure to use some anti-seize on the threads. In case you move the locking nut during removal/install, count the number of turns to unscrew the rod end and install new one to exact number of turns. You'll be off ever so slightly but you'll get it aligned anyways.

Count the threads and install the new ones on the same number of threads. Use a tape measure to make sure your tires measure the same distance between each other at front and back. That will atleast get you to the alignment shop safely.

I'm with the rest of the guys who responded. Very easy job.
Only thing I could add is suggestion for either Napa or Moog replacement parts. I installed a set of Autozone Duralast on my old truck and they were gone again in 2 years, replaced with the house brand at Advance (Driveworks?) and they barely lasted any longer. Went with Moog on one side and Napa Chassis on the other the third time around (a little test of durability on my part) and they lasted until I sold it 5 years later and are still doing great (I know the guy I sold it to). Both just seemed to be a much better quality.

Easy swap.... I got the MOOG tie-rods for around $30.00 each. They even have the grease fittings built in, unlike the stock ones.
