There is a local company that will tune for E-85 and they guarantee an increase in power and economy.

NGM,E-85 is 105 octane.

When I get my tuner I plan on getting them to do a custom file for me for using E-85 and then another file for 87 octane so I can switch back and forth when I need to.There are 5 stations locally selling E-85 now.

ethanol is only 68% as effective as gasoline so you have to go to the pumps more often, but it doesn't release hydro carbons so IMO its worth it, but its a dying technology and will probably be ruled out in a few years....untill then, if you have a station to fill up with it go for it....

Ethanol is a government subsidized piece of crap! My Grandmother owns 2 corn farms in Western MN and I still say this even though it has benifited her/our family greatly.

I would not even consider buying an E85 rig.

It is since the Flex fuel vehicles are still designed to run on gasoline. If they came from the factory at 14:1 compression ratio and only able to run on E85 you would see it as a better fuel than gasoline.Or use a 11:1 compression ratio and go Forced Induction with it.

E-85 is the poor man's race fuel.

Several racers in the midwest have been converting to it and building up their engines to utilize it's high octane properties.Call me a ricer for this comment if you like, but I do know of a 700whp Civic that is street driveable using E-85 for fuel and it still gets 25-27mpg on the highway.

This is also what Ford is going to be using in the new line of Eco-boost engines that will be showing up in show rooms in the next couple of years.

My truck was a Flex Fuel and I didn't pay anything extra for it.

ps. they sell it everywhere up here. The state gov't mandated 10% minimum in ALL of our fuel in MN and that ante has been upped to 20% by some near future date. Needless to say we have to get our fuel from local refineries as it is state specific and this of coarse drives up the price of our fuel. Ethanol also gets worse mileage (low blends) to much worse mileage (E85) than regular unleaded fuel. The price to make has shot up dramatically with the record high corn prices.

It is a freaking joke!

The fuel itself and the plant to produce it are subsidized by the Federal Gov't.

Have you thought about getting a tuner and tuning the vehicle to run on it?

If I were buying a new truck and the E85 vehicle cost the exact same amount as the non E85 vehicle I would buy the NON every time.
