Default Erratic miles till empty

So I’m gonna try this again by wording it differently. I have a 04 ford f150 5.4l lariat and when I start the truck the miles till empty will say 140miles. when I sit at idle for a minute or start driving it’ll change right away and drop to say 120 for instance. And previous cars/trucks I owned never usually had this issue it would just go down by the mile but seems like i loose 5miles after only going one mile. And I checked my CEL and there’s no fuel related codes only 02 sensors and camshaft position sensors. To me it seems like I’m not getting an accurate reading and not burning through the fuel. My father and I were leaning towards the idea of it being the pumps float arm being deteriorated so it’s not floating properly causing me to have an inaccurate reading especially when moving since it would be sloshing around when driving. I was curious as to if anyone else has had this issue I saw previous forums with a similar issue but a way later model so I’m looking for opinions on the year 04-08. Read it could be the purge valve, dirty throttle body, dirty maf sensor, etc stuff like that which may need a simple clean. But again I have no idea haven’t tried anything cause I just don’t wanna waste my time. If I didn’t explain something good feel free to ask or correct and I’ll do better getting out for a good understanding

yes but even settled on flat ground it still does all that. So I know it’s not the incline causing it. I thought the same

When we had an 08 Escape the miles to empty was always erratic. IMHO it is just a gimmick gadget, do not rely on that, just watch the gas gauge & do not pay attention to the miles to empty.

Coming from the person who started two threads on the same subject. We read the posts; you are not listening to what we suggested.

“lie-o-meter” isn’t a suggestion, I got no leaks, and injectors are good. Anymore suggestions? Motor has only 43k on it
