Far from a financial wizard, but estimating 7k for engine R&R on a 13 year old truck. the KBB is 6k-10k for private party and 4k-6k for trade in. so, the meter is tilting more towards new.

i would do the same thing, get rid of the truck and get something new, better tech, and a better truck IMO. now is the time to do it. I can't say much as in the past 4 years i have gotten 3 new trucks

I spent $7,646.89 on Friday for mine. However, they did install the long tube header kit and Melling 360 HV oil pump I purchased.

Regardless, it was worth it to me, I bought her new, and taken care of her along the way.
I look at it as it's the equivalent of about 12 car payments.

Being old school - when we had middle-aged vehicles, we would go buy an engine out of a wrecked truck and swap it ourselves.

Out in 4 hours, In - 5 hours.

Was that for a Re-manufactured engine removal and replacement? If so, did you go the Ford or Jasper route? Hearing great things about the new HV pumps. thought the 340 HV was the replacement for the 5.4 3 valve?

I hear you on the payments! Interest or not, still a long road to get to 60 months.

Yes, removal and replacement. Plus the installation of the long tube headers I supplied and the oil pump.

About the oil pump.......I ordered the 360.....but, I think I received the 340.....and.....I think you might be right! I got the box and dropped it off at the dealership. Need to look but, either way, I got the HV pump for the motor from the get go. I'm really happy so far.

Thanks again for the update.
btw, did they encounter any other components that needed to be replaced during the installation? I'm hearing new headers are also pretty common when they R/R engine?

Gents, question for you.

When replacing the 5.4 with a Ford Reman, I was told you also need to make sure they replace the engine solenoids. If not, this voids the Ford warranty. Are you hearing the same? If so, which solenoids need to be replaced?
