Engine knock at idle
He said low, not lower.
I'm thinking he means the knocking you hear from worn out cam phasers. In that case, he needs to do a complete timing job.
Just a note: certain 2008 model year 5.4L's have issues with thrust washers wearing out prematurely. If he has a lower motor knock, it would be this, or journal bearings going bad on the crank.

Nope, you have a 2004, so it's the cam phasers, and a general timing job.
A complete timing job with OEM or Melling components (nothing else) involves replacing the cam phasers, VCT solenoids, chains, chain guides, tensioners, oil pump (Melling M340HV specifically), roller followers and lash adjusters; costs about $1400 in all for parts and specialized tools.
After this, you use 5W30 oil.
