Engine knock
I just purchased a used 05 f150. My last truck was the same year and model. It lost oil pressure and seized up on the highway.
This new one seemed pretty good to me at the time. Even though it had the cam codes. I know stupid. It didn't have the tick my old one had (for over 100,000 miles) so I assumed it wasn't that serious. About a 100 miles later I found out I was very wrong. On start up it has a knocking noise until you touch the gas pedal then it idles smooth with no noise.
I was towing my trailer home on the highway and started to feel a misfire and power loss. Pulled over and it stalled. Tried to restart bad knocking ticking noise. Pulled codes same as before cam sensors both banks plus misfire on 3&4. I opened the hood to quickly realize the vct solenoids were unplugged. I plugged them back in and did a restart and it was worse. So I unplugged them again.
So I cleared the codes. Let it sit for about 15 minutes started it again and it idled and drove home just fine. I'm really confused because accept for the first 2 seconds on start up it idles like a new truck and has drove like a new truck accept this one instance on the highway last night.
Sorry I didn't write down the initial codes. Only ones that have come back are for the cam solenoids. Any idea where to start?
