Bucko,

Is this the write up you were talking about?

Is mounting these fans to the shroud the only way to do it? Why can't I mount them forward of the A/C condenser to push the air through to the radiator. Or, whay can't I mount it directly to the radiator support, up close to the radiator for maximum air flow? Just curious, sir. I want to do this right and your expert opinions (as everyone else's here) are greatly appreciated.
I may not have the entire answer, but there are a few things to consider when mounting an e-fan with or without a shroud. Some say that the existing shroud is restrictive when at highway speeds. The air doesnt naturally flow through because of the bottleneck. But this shroud allows the fan to pull more air through the entire radiator when it spins. Conversely, the e-fan mounted directly to the radiator without a shroud can allow more air to naturally flow through at high speeds, but the fans do not pull air across the entire radiator. But e-fans can spin faster than the mechanical fan at idle, thereby increasing the CFM's pulled (or pushed) through the radiator.

Now, I would probably argue for a pull-type configuration because the air forced through the radiator wont be blocked as much as if it were on the outside. But that may simply be a biased mindset on my end.

djjr50,

I agree wholeheartedly and am with you on a "tractor" effort (pulling) or fan performance.

Other than the Mark VIII fans mentioned on this thread, can anyone offer good or bad feedback on Troyer, or FF Dynamics products?

The 2010 and up F-150 are equipped with e-fans. I just ordered mine last week and got them a day later. www.carpartsestore.com part number AL3Z-8C607-A. $160 shipped. This is a genuine Ford part. You can get a quality DC Controller here http://www.dccontrol.com/fancontrol.htm $145 part number FK-50P Fans pretty much bolt in on the top. There is some slight triming to be done with a dremel to the fan shroud on some 07-08 models. From what I have heard there pretty much dropping right in 04-08's. Anyway $300 bucks will get you rolling with fans that will last a life time. Plus both fans on high max out at 30amps. The good thing is they will never see that kind of duty. About 50% is all they will ever need to run and the DC Controller will take care of that.

No. Here is the one I used....it's cleaner, installs within your shroud (using the shroud as it is intended; funneling the air to the entire surface of the radiator).

Here's two links:

http://www.modmyf150.com/2010/02/15/...or-cooling-fan

and:

https://www.f150forum.com/f4/soon-e-fan-install-55999/

For the record (sorry I never updated the other links), my efan install is fine. No overheating issues at all. The engine runs quieter, as I do not hear the "roar" in the morning on cold starts (the old clutch fan). I cannot say I have gained any huge gains in MPG; my SCANGUAGE II did not show any significant gains, plus I have the 4.2 V6. Perhaps the 5.4's do better in this catagory. My AC is cooler during idle though, as the MARK VIII fan I used is a two speed. The DC Controller I installed (highly recommended) turns the e-fan on high speed when the AC compressor is on.

During highway speeds, the e-fan is off (DC Controller also came with a radiator temp probe), so this works like the standard clutch fan (disabled at off idle RPM's). Highway speeds don't require any fan.

So, if you have a 5.4, and perhaps want to squeak out as much HP and MPG as you can, I'd say this is one possibility. For me and my 4.2 V6, this was not an issue, as this engine is not going to be any power beast! I liked the idea of removing drag off of the engine, and getting a few more miles off of the water pump, plus getting some extra cooling for the AC during idle. All in all, I had under $200.00 invested. Besides, living in an apartment part time makes my weekends are boring; always looking for something to do!

This is what I was thinking of doing.... so for the electrical side did you wire up the same as most of the other e-fan mods?
