I think the response was un called for, but at the same time I think 50% off was not right either. I can see those going for $150 easily though. Nothing is cheap these days.

If you're gathering feedback, I'll add mine. I would have appreciated his response more if he'd at least tried to say why they charge $200 for it. "It's made in the USA" isn't enough of a reason. His reply was snippy to say the least and it would have been nice had he acknowledged that you and and others on the forum were interested, and tell you why he feels it's a quality product that demands the price it does. Just my $0.02...

Pics? Did you do a write up? I am very interested.

Honestly, having been in a similar situation... I would have been furious if somebody asked me for 50% off on something like that. Being that I have done some small business type things, it is VERY expensive to do things small scale which they have to do... it is also impossible to do that. I am sure they have a minimum of $120-140 invested in the unit. What the OP was saying when he asked for $100 price was that "I bet you are probably making over $100 on each of these and it costs you basically nothing to produce, so how about you cut us a deal?"

I would be willing to completely guarantee they don't make more than $50 on a sale.

However, I do agree the response was a little rough around the edges... but I totally understand it. "made in the US" was not his only reason, although he has some unreasonable assumptions. I definitely didn't pay $35k for my truck.

He could have politly "counter offered" a price, rather than his sharp answer.

Then again, I can respect a sharp answer.

What did your e-mail look like? perhaps the curt response was a reaction to your request. Show the rest of the story.

put it this way, on 100 bucks they would be making money. not as much as full retail, but basically giving it to you for an aftermarket dealer cost.

they make more then $50 on each sale if the manufacturer is selling them at a retail price of $200.

Man, no offence, but that guy needs to get laid.

That is no way to talk to potential customers. Business 101; NEVER OFFEND YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Yea he makes a part specific to a truck. Yea he has is a small business. Something like this could grow his business, then he would have a bigger business; see how that works? Yea he is in the USA, guess what, I am too. Don't get me wrong, I buy American products, but I don't like dealing with *****holes like that.

He was getting free advertising, and didn't even know it. Now look what it turned into, all from one simple e-mail.
