Dual Exhaust Thoughts

The soundproofing in the cab is pretty good on mine cause the cab drone is very minimal and being I drive highway daily I'd get annoyed if it was too loud but I can barely hear it at 70mph unless I'm passing someone, older trucks or ones with vinyl floors (no carpet) have louder cab drone...

I had a Flow 40 on my truck for a little over 3 year's. It rusted out and gave me an excuse to get a 18" SS Magnaflow that eliminated the drone at around 40 mph and it's not as loud at crusing speed's. Deep growl when accelerating and quiet at idle. Sound's good at crusing speed's too along with the hum from the Toyo's!

I've got an 04 5.4 and I had all four cats cut off and had a single in dual out super 40 flow with 3.5" tips at the corners of my bumper. Sounds amazing but louder than I expected. I use to have a 97 dodge ram 360 with straights no cats no mufflers and my ford is still louder

I was thinking dual tips out from under the rear bumper center, below the plate. is there anysense to buying a single in, double out muffler for this? also, will it make the truck sound more ballsy then the stock system?

I just had a Magnaflow muffler with single in, single out with a Y, then 3 inch tips added yesterday. I had them run both out in front of the rear tire. The sound is exactly what I was looking for. May not be much of a performace booster but sounds like a truck should and looks good. Depends on what you really want, looks, sound, performance, etc.

i kinda feel like if your gonna spend the money you might as well get some power out of it. and the sad fact is exhaust "sets" are usually over priced and dont flow very well for the money. i have never seen a set of duals with a muffler that flowed over 500 cfm, but if you spend a little time and look into it you can build a very high flowing exhaust system for less money than any name brand like flow, magna flow, gibson, etc.
the trick is finding out how much flow you need for the amount of horsepower you have with out loss.a 200hp engine with open exhaust doesnt need an all out race exhaust to keep 200hp. dual 2.5 and mufflers flowing 350 cfm should do it no problem and still be quiet(not too bad anyway lol). but a 400 hp engine open exhaust needs a very well thought out system to keep from loosing hp.
x pipes help alot with a better quieter sound and they help scavenging so i highly recommend one for apps under 500 hp. if your over that you might think of getting a good resonator chamber made at LEAST the cu in volume of your engine. an example was the old pro chamber for 5.0 mustangs, but it was a very crude design compared to what you can do your self or have built.
another eample of a cheap performer was my 87 camaro. i had a cheap set of headmans and y pipe with single 3" with a racemagnum. the whole system cost 300 bucks installed! (8 years ago) and the car ran 7.90 in the 8th mile. pump gas daily driver with an old school 350. times could have been better but suspension is high dollar
