Default doing it right, looking for advice on list of mods.

Hey everybody,

So instead of doing this the wrong way like most of us have done in the past and spending tons of money on performance equipment and regretting it later when we change things around or find they don’t work or aren’t compatible with other mods, I decided to put a list together of what I think would be a good “starting” point for feeding the craving of more power, torque, umph, etc. Please feel free to comment and recommend other parts, recommend I not do some of the things listed, recommend where to get some of the stuff for cost savings or high quality, offer insight to what items might not be compatible or not worthwhile when paired together, etc. Thanks for everyone’s insight in advance!

Looking at the intake/exhaust output first:
- I already have a CAI (I know, some people like ‘em, some hate ‘em, but it’s there so it’s staying )
- Throttle body spacer?
- Throttle body (80mm? 90mm?)
- Long tube headers?
- High flow cats?
- Performance muffler (SI/DO) or just pipes from the cats back?
- And of course with all these mods making the air flow like a bat out of hell through the motor I’m going to need a tuner with a custom tune… thinking the Evo Gryphon CS (I have no interest in a back-up camera) from PHP – do they do custom tunes without actually having the vehicle to tune it to?

Looking good so far. I will say I think throttle body spacers are not helpful on these trucks. Just from reading most people say it's a waist. Maybe wrong on that one.

As far as muffler, if your going that far with your system I would put in true dual exhaust. I would bring an x-pipe just beyond your cats, and then put in two si/so mufflers on it. That will make it flow well, but still keep some low end torque.

Lastly, yes php can program without your vehicle there. I assume they retrieve your trucks hex code, as I believe the hex code is where all the programing gets made.

Considered a blower? The entry level Roush kits are around $2500.

Agree with GATOR, you would be much better off getting a kit that was designed to work together on your truck. Better reliability, power, and probably cheaper than buying everything separately as well.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'd love to go the blower route, but don't have the 2500 bones to purchase (not to mention install and dyno/tune fees). Just looking to stay naturally aspirated 'til I hit the lottery

Some other things I thought about... how big of a throttle body can I go and still fit the "stock" size CAI intake tube to it? And if I end up getting long tube headers, do they eliminate 2 of the 4 cats from the system? Anyone passed an emissions test doing this before?
