I'm doing some digging into the Federal Law on this...here's what I have found so far:
"According to Title II of the EPA Clean Air Act (Enacted Jan 1 1988) there are multiple regulations concerning the use or misuse of aftermarket catalytic converters, or the removal and/or modification of a stock catalytic converter. According to various parts of Section 203, all aftermarket catalytic converters must be EPA certified, and your vehicle must have a gas conversion device of some manner. If not, both you and the installer are punishable of a Federal Offense by Section 205 (a). The operator's fine can be no more than $2,500 and the installation agency no more than $25,000. "
Here is the link (Federal government): http://www.epa.gov/air/caa/title2.html
So, if you remove the cats yourself, you can be fined $2,500.00....that would buy a nice "cat back" exhaust system IMO with money for a Friday night on the town (quietly!).

Idk how it is in Orlando (I know where my papa lives in McKinney cops don't care about exhaust) but here in Tallahassee nobody cares, there is no emissions and really no way to get caught unless you happen to **** off the wrong guy who has a clue about exhaust from a previous job or experience. Street Boss don't worry about cops around here I ran open manifolds for over a week and got more compliments from cops than anyone else and more than I have with my super 44 and high flows. With all that said I'd still say get high flows or keep the stockers and just cut the muffler and have Tire Town on South Monroe weld it all up. David (the manager) is a great guy and does awesome prices. MAKE SURE you don't have exhaust leaks though because I had one and it wasa pain to get scheduled to go back in. Mighty Muffler is good stuff but $$$$$$$.

i know someone that unbolted his exhaust and left everything the same! it is still quite till he gets on it! it is not annoying, and has no check engine light on!!! the worst it can be is do it if you done like it bolt it back up!
