Just removed the right side phaser and the phaser pin had broke that goes onto the backside of the cam. The phaser housing that holds the pin had a crack in it and fell out after I removed it. Luckily the cam is ok but I'm glad I didn't put this off any longer.

I finished installing the ford phaser a couple of hours ago and my truck is fixed. In my case, the locking pin was installed backwards/upside down so the hardened pin was against the back of the phaser and the spring cup was toward the milled locking hole. I am in contact with the Dorman rep to see what he is going to do about it. This is three times in for me due to faulty parts

Yep complete junk I need to try and get rockauto to refund my money. I took the phaser apart and you could see wear marks on the metal where the internal vane plate rotates. Glad you got itfixed.

Is your truck making any noise on startup?

Same! Already took the doorman phasers out (what was left of them)...but the timing set is still in mine....I may just order a brand new motor next...i do too many big trips to be worrying when my 5.4 will leave me stranded!

Yes and the timing chain. Im sure depending on how the phasers are breaking down causes different effects on the guides but the cloyes timing chain links on closer inspection were rough and not near as smooth as the ford oem. I had way more wear in 3000 miles from these than 80k on the originals.

Ok thanks I've decided everything is coming out. Just too much risk at this point if I am going to tear it down again.
