Deisel sound
Well, I just replaced my vct solynoids and I still get a sound under certain circumstances that makes my engine sound like a deisel or like it has no oil pressure. The circumstances that can recreate the sound are when the engine is warm, driving at low speed such as in a parking lot or driveway then going to idle when stopping the engine slips into the noisy rattle. Does this meen cam phasers?

Sounds like it. If I were you, I'd replace all that stuff under the front cover. In the interest of saving money (in case it's an exhaust manifold leak), you may want to consider taking it to a shop to get a smoke test done. The diesel sound can also be caused by a leak in the exhaust manifold (though the rattling makes me think that it's timing chain or phaser related).

Yeah there is no way that this is an exhaust manifold leak, when it starts making the noise if I rev it a couple times it goes back to normal idle.

What happens when, at temperature, you unplug the solenoids for a few minutes?

Mine done it when i go into reverse.. Never in drive.. I run 10w30 and it hasn't happened since... Not to say that will work for you but I am picky about who works on my truck.. Once i find someone who is trustworthy then i'll upgrade and replace everything.. My current shop i've been using for a few years now..
