Default Dealerships really are scumbags...

So ive been trying to fix my powered sliding rear window for the last few weeks since someone tried to break into it.

After being unsuccessful fixing the old motor and cables I bought an entirely new unit. Having trouble getting it installed I opted to have my local dealership take on the job.

So I dropped my truck off yesterday and was given a preliminary quote of $150 for the fix (they took off $50 because I had the interior apart making the job easier and told them I would put the interior back together).

After 7 hours of them having the truck I called them up to see if they had it finished - they told me the motor I bought from them 5 days ago was bad and I would have to buy a new part. After a bit of back and forth they said they would replace the part at no cost if I had them install it - but now they wanted $310.93 (more than twice what they originally quoted me) because they said they had to remove the window to install it. It sounded bogus but I agreed to it just have the damn thing fixed and left it with them and was to pick it up today at 5pm.

So I called the service dept at 5pm and asked if my truck was ready - at which point they said my truck was not ready and needed an entire new back window which would cost $700 and some change...

I told them dont do the job and I will be there in the morning to talk to them in person as to where we go from here.

If I dont have them put the new window in - they still want to charge me the $310.93 for the job they quoted me - even though they did not fix anything.

I looked online and found the entire back window + motor assembly and cables for $394 + free shipping.

So im pretty pissed off right now. I went online and found nothing but HORRIBLE reviews on yelp for NORTH COUNTY FORD in Vista, CA. I totally regret giving them any business. This is the reason I NEVER GIVE DEALERSHIPS my business. Either this place is full of incompetant *******s or they are just theifs and scumbags - probably a bit of both.

What would you guys do? Im thinking of just telling them to put the window back in and Im going to rip out the motor and just put the thing back together - which I hate to do because I really want the use of the window, but at the same time im not going to spend $1,200 for a window I hardly use.

Is it reasonable for them to require me to pay for the work that they could not complete? What would you guys do?

Sometimes I wish I lived in the times of the old west - where when someone screws you over you can drag them outside and whoop their *** without worrying about getting thrown in jail for it...

I surely wouldn't pay for them not doing anything..... Heck you can get a complete used unit for around $200 at junkyards....a couple bolts and some seal and your good to go....

Thats what I told them. They had all day yesterday to look over the unit and provide an accurate quote. $310 was more than I wanted to spend - but now they want the $310 and have done nothing to fix the window. When I told the service rep this he told me well ill talk to my manager - maybe we can cut that cost in half...

So before I lost my cool over the phone I told them ill be down there in the morning to speak in person.

I don't trust those bastards, either. Here in Denver, at FREEWAY FORD, I took my truck in for alignment as it was pulling just slightly to the right. I had a coupon. They tell me it can't be done until my tie rods are replaced, as they are "shot". "Oh, really?" I say and take my truck home.

I jack it up...lo and behold, no movement WHATSOEVER. So I drove it to a reliable (but expensive) shop...South Denver Automotive and tell them what happened. Sure enough, they jack it up, confirm my findings, align it up and I'm on my way.

Imagine how many they rip off that have no clue!!! If I can't confirm what the problem is myself, I always will get a second opinion...I think way too many say "Just fix it". Tragic, really.

Yeah when I went to pick it up last night after them "inspecting" it all day - or whatever the hell they were doing with it - they quoted me the $300 for the job they were supposed to do today - and then he says the plugs need to be changed, and we should also do the coil pack. Also you need a new fuel filter and should do a injector service.

I said really I need all that? He says yes thats what the mechanic told me ... I said well I did all that within the last month myself. He goes "oh -- maybe it was for a different truck". I really didnt think too much about it at the time because I was pretty fed up with them having my truck all day and not bothering to call me that they could not fix it that day (something that they should have been able to tell me within a mech looking at it for about 3 minutes).

I wonder how many people they just tell NEED THIS AND THAT and they go OH REALLY ... WELL OK.

What a bunch of ****ing scum bags. I hope they decide not to charge me for the work they couldnt do otherwise im going to raise hell at the place....

I would definitely be fighting that. That's just ridiculous. I try to stay away from the dealerships because they're so expensive. I've been having issues at ntb for a while because they keep telling me I need things when I don't. They recently told me one part was messed up when there was 2 parts messed up which caused the one I replaced to wear out in a couple months. I had mine replaced a few months ago and I think it cost about $400 for the whole window installed by a auto glass company. If they didn't do any work then they don't deserve any money.

As far as reviews, most people only leaves reviews when something bad happens so I try to keep that in mind when looking at reviews.

Most places will just try and sell you all they can so I try to avoid any shop. I do most everything myself. I have found that with the internet I can get help to finish most any job. The only things I generally pay for are transmission flushes, since I do not have the machine, and alignments.

ALL dealerships are crooks! a few years ago I was job hunting and have always been in sales so I figured I'd try my hand at selling cars..... I was pretty good. after 4 months at a FORD dealer another I was recruited by a much larger Dodge/JEEP dealer.. stayed there about 6 months Then was recruited by a Very Large TOYOTA dealer as internet manager... money was great but damn, dealerships even rob from their employees.... I have never seen so much thievery.... Not only in the Sales Departments but in service too... ie; I sold a gently used Sequoia to a customer. when we test drove it it had a "shutter" over 60 mph... The floor manager told the customer "we" would take care of it.... Sold the Sequoia, took it to service for an alignment and balancing. Customer called me about a week later when they got a service invoice in the mail for over $300.... DEALERSHIPS WILL NICKLE AND DIME YOU TO DEATH...... and regardless of how good a deal you think you got... YOU GOT ROBBED! Dealerships are like Vegas Casinos---- THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS!
