2007 F150 5.4
Just had my plugs replace at 83,000 miles. Went to independent shop and he charged $275 for labor (i provide plugs) and $50/plug that break. 4 plugs broke so total was $475 for labor and $76 for plugs (Motorcraft Double platinum) for a grand total of $551. I live on Long Island and went to a ton of shops and nobody wants to touch these, this was the best price by anybody around here. Ford wanted $800 for parts and labor and that did not include removing any broken plugs, that would have been per hour charge.

2) It went to the dealer today and we worked out a price on the job no matter what happens with the plugs. He was fair and I'm happy.

3) Next time I should be able to do it myself, I just didn't want to take the chance first time around. I make more in one day than it would cost to do it myself at the shop here on post so "this time" its not worth the effort. I plan on doing my differential this weekend, you have to ask yourself, "Is the juice worth the squeeze"?

4) I've been oversees to fight for your country and still serve today, so if I was going to be "a cry baby" over anything, it sure wouldn't be about a truck, so keep your comment to yourself, "tough guy".

If I pick it up today and everything works out, I will post the price and give the dealer here some credit. Then, if there are any of you that pass through or live close to Fort Sill, then you know where to get a fair deal for a plug change.
I take it you like the girl next door. Lol

So are these difficult to change plugs only on the 5.4?? Am I in the same boat with my 4.2? I've changed plugs a lot on my cars (first time truck owner) and its simple. Also, you need a special tool for this? Or just for the 5.4??....

5.4 is the only one with problems. You should be fine with the 4.2.

It's really not hard. I changed mine just a few miles past 80 thousand.

Drove for about 15 minutes and got the engine nice and warm. Popped all of my COPs, moved some vacuum lines, and removed the battery cover and PCM.

Took an air hose and got all of the debris out from the spark plug cavities and sprayed penetrating oil in each one.

Waited about 10 minutes and got all 8 out no problem. A couple of packs of anti seize later all 8 new plugs were in. COPs back in place. Battery cover put back. PCM re-attached. Vacuum lines put back.

Took 2 hours and spent 88 dollars. Win.

Default Lisle tool

As someone mentioned earlier in the post, a lisle removal tool (around $70) at amazon, a set of plugs, anti seize an afternoon away from small children that can hear you swear like a sailor, and well you can knock em out, no problem. I went 4 for 4 with my plugs, didn't even bother with the penetrant. I was more worried about hydrolocking the motor than getting them out whole. Good luck for all those willing to do it yourself, I refuse to pay out the ying yang because of some idiot engineer(s). Good luck!!

I just did mine today as the dealer wanted to charge $950 to have it done. I have a friend that owns a shop and he quoted me $300 plus $40 for each one that broke and I should have taken him up on it. It took a while. I started at 9 this morning and didn't finish until 4 this afternoon. I had to run to the store a couple of times as well. Three were broken and I had to extract. I pulled a part off that is attached to the "fuel bar" and I shouldn't have. It is now blowing fuel out of that point when I try and crank it.
