Default Is it the dealers fault?

I had another thread about a recent thing that happened to my truck. To make a long story short:

August 2011-
took truck in to dealer for spark plug change.

December 2012-
I start to get a strange squeak from the motor and I have had a gas smell for 6-7 months and couldnt figure it out.

Truck blows a spark plug out and I take it back to the dealer who did the plugs. They say they dont know how it happened and its going to be $375 for one new plug and a new coil that was damaged. So the spark plug unscrewed itself and popped out.

Even though its been over a year shouldn't this be the dealers fault for not tightening the plug? Shouldnt they cover the cost or at least part of the cost? Im going down there in about 1-2 hours and I plan on bringing up my concerns with the manager.

Absolutely they should pay!! There is no reason for it to blow out a spark plug unless it was not torqued correctly.

I probably should have brought it back in but I didnt. I know its been a little over 12 months and over 12k miles but it doesnt change the fact that the only way this could happen is if the tech didnt torque the plug correctly. Im curious to see what the manager tells me.

They warranty repairs for 12 months 12k miles. I paid $358. Truck runs like new now though. Gained a ton of power and idles so smooth I can barely tell its running. I bet my mpg increases too. Its amazing what a loose spark plug can do. They said the other ones were tight but I bet they are lieing. Anyways im happy my truck runs like new now!

You blew a spark plug on a 3v 5.4L? That's a new one. Just curiosity if they used the old 2V torque spec and did they use antisieze on the threads?

I think most of the cost was in diagnosing and checking things out. And those cops are like $80 from the dealer. Dealers are expensive! Either way it doesnt matter because my money is coming back.

think at most the diag is about $100 buck, C.O.P is $80 and spark plug is $12. so with tax you should be looking at $230. they must have charged you an hour diag AND then full labor time. a misfire with a blow plug should be pretty easy to diag, maybe 10min, then the rest of the diag time can be used for labor install
