Default Dash controls went dead at startup

2005 lariat

This morning i started the truck up as i usually do on a cold new england morning. I turned on the rear defroster and heat/defrost and bumped up the fan. Within less than a minute after startup and turning on the heater functions, the dash (only the portion where hvac controls are) started to flicker and the heat shut off. All lights on this part of dash went black, except the light for rear defrost. Shut off truck, waited a minute then restarted. Rear defrost light shut off, and now that whole part of dash is off with no lights or functioning controls.

Any ideas where to start on this? Almost seems like a fuse blew. I will note that my audio headunit right above it, and seemingly everything else electrical is working. When the truck was running, everything seemed to be running smooth mechanically.

Thanks for the help
