It still works though. The half of mine that was stuck was at the bottom, so I'm guessing it was water in the system and the IWE was rusted inside.
It pretty much crumbled apart when I removed it which wasn't surprising based on how corroded the shell was. What didn't crumble off was stuck to the wheel hub. Both iwes were in similar condition.

Oh, I thought you were taking it apart again and had replaced both IWEs already.

You're correct. I though you were asking about the shape the original iwe was in. The new one looked fine didn't seem to have taken any damage at all.

That's good. I know you said you still had some grinding. Do you have a vacuum gauge / pump to test the system with?

I haven't gotten one yet but I plan to if the new solenoid doesn't solve the problem. I'm still waiting for it to come in the mail hopefully tomorrow if not the day after Christmas.

Well, your hubs are good so the only other parts in the system are the vacuum lines, check valves, and reservoir. We'll get it working yet! With as deteriorated as your IWEs were, it's very possible that some water and crud got sucked into your solenoid.

The new solenoid came earlier than I thought. Put that in and it seems to have fixed the problem the rest of the way. Truck goes into 4wheel fine and the grinding is no longer there. Thanks again for all your help and quick responses!

Great! I get a certain satisfaction out of helping someone fix their truck (and for a lot cheaper than the dealer).
